SOURCE: Battery drains if interior light fuse is plugged into fuse box.

I'd remove panel as/if necessary so that I could remove connector at power trunk latch, and see what happens from there. If interior lights work o.k. and no drain, then you found your source of drain/short.

I believe that there is a short in the switch that turns on the dome light

The interior lights and dome light are all operated by connecting the white/ground wire to the frame or body of the vehicle. There's always power to the lights but connecting the ground makes the circuit, complete and lights on. Until you can get a chance to repair the switch, just take all the interior light bulbs out so they won't drain your battery. That's not a repair tho, it's only temporary.

There is a fuse when connected, drains battery need to know what feeds from fuse 20A

20A indicates the strength of the fuse - 20 amps. There is a wide assortment of issues that can cause your battery to drain. If no check engine light is on, then there is a lengthy process involved to find the short circuit responsible for the drain - personally I would first have the battery load tested to be sure it is not the problem. There have been times I had new batteries short out, and I had to get them warrantied. If you don't have an assortment of electrical testing equipment and a better than rudimentary understanding of automotive electrical systems, I recommend getting it to a shop for diagnosis and repair.
Most auto parts stores can do load testing fo batteries.
Hope this helps!

98 explorer sport will not hold a charge even after a new altanator and anew battery was installed. what could it be?

THERE HAS TO BE A SHORT SOMEWHERE WHICH IS DRAINING THE BATTERY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN USE. TAKE THE POSITIVE LEAD OFF THE BATTERY OVERNIGHT AND YOU WILL FIND IN THE MORNING THAT THE BATTERY IS STILL CHARGED,THEN ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS FIND WHERE THE DISCHARGE IS ,

I have a slow drain on my car battery. I puller

Use a 12volt test light between the positive battery post and the positive cable with the positive cable disconnected from the battery.
Keep key off.
You will see the test light "light" with any drain.

Any drain showing a dim test light is..... OK
Any drain showing a bright light is.....BAD

Disconnect items (fuses) one at a time and watch the light.
Keep the doors closed....the inside dome light is a drain with the door open!
After fuses are checked....disconnect the alt if needed and watch the light.
Keep going until you get rid of the bright light.

The battery is being drained, we think possibly the starter, but the two bolts we removed will not allow us to take the starter out so that we can get it tested.

TO FIND THE DRAIN ON YOUR BATTERY. USE A SIMPLE 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT. REMOVE ONE BATTERY CABLE FROM THE BATTERY. CONNECT TEST LIGHT TO THE CABLE YOU REMOVED FROM THE BATTERY AND THEN CONNECT THE OTHER END OF THE TEST LIGHT TO THE BATTERY POST THAT YOU REMOVED THE CABLE FROM. IF THERE IS A DRAIN ON THE BATTERY THE TEST LIGHT WILL LIGHT UP. WHEN DOING THIS TEST MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS OFF THAT MAY CAUSE A DRAIN ON THE BATTERY. DOME LIGHT, HOOD LIGHT ECT. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP REMOVE FUSES ONE AT A TIME UNTIL LIGHT GOES OUT. IF LIGHT DOES NOT GO OUT UNPLUG ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS UNDER THE HOOD UNTIL THE LIGHT GOES OUT. WHEN THE LIGHT DOES GO OUT YOU HAVE FOUND WHERE THE SHORT/DRAIN IS LOCATED.

BATTERY IS DRAINING EVEN WHILE CAR IS NOT IN USE

I stated "such as a light " there are many, many other causes of 12 volt drains such as a seat switch that might hang up and stick. Empty that battery overnight. First install a 9V Battery Radio memory / and clock or you will have to reset both. Disconnect BLACK negative cable of battery. Using a 12V testlight, connect one end to the disconnected cable, and the other to the negative battery terinal. It should light. Remove the 20A BODY and LIGHTER fuse first . This will eliminate the courtesy light circuit . If light goes off the drain is on that circuit. STILL LIT ? drain is on another circuit. Start by eliminating fuses. Hope this helps.

Something is zapping the battery in 1990 Ford Taurus

You have an electrical drain in the vehicle somewhere. The first place I would check is the dome lights, if they are off you will need to start eliminating each individual circuit. To do this you will need to get a 12 volt test light. remove the positive battery cable and connect this test light (one end to the cable and the other to the battery the test light will light up at this point) this is completing the battery circuit, next go to the fuse panel and have someone watch the test light, the first fuse you will need to remove is the dome light fuse. If you remove this fuse and the light goes out then you have a constant drain in the dome light circuit which could be a blown bulb or bad door switch. If the light stays on then leave this fuse out (due to the doors being open)and continue 1 by 1 removing fuses until the test light goes out, keep in mind if the light doesn't go out go ahead and reinsert the fuse to eliminate any confusion on where they go. Once you find the circuit that has the problem then we can diagnose what part may have failed to find your drain but more than likely it will go out with the dome light fuse removed. The door switches on these cars had some issues.

Short circuit in dome light circuit 1987 toyota celica gt

Sometimes the dome lite is turned on manually by rotating the headlamp switch knob, try turning it off with the knob. Best time to check for light left on, is in the dark.
Hopefully pulling the dome lite fuse will stop the battery drain.

Battery drain

That is easy to track down, ok full charged battery, then connect an inductive pickup ammeter that can read milliamps around the positive battery cable make sure all lights and doors are closed and read the drain on the system anything more that .003 amperes is excessive remember that the PCM has a KEEP ALIVE MEMORY and that cannot be shut off so don't worry about that it's so slight that you won't see it.
if you see a drain start unplugging fuses one at a time and lay them out so you know where they came from, keep goin until you get a drop on the reading and that is the circuit that is draining current.
How long does it take do drain a full charged battery?Check glove box lights
trunk lights
underhood lights
aftermarket alarm systems
Amps for the stereo
A bad alternator can drain a battery
