You must be sure the choke is operating properly. When engine is cold, check to see that when you apply some throttle that the choke plate snaps shut on the carb. If this is o/k then it may be possible that the fuel is leaking out of the fuel bowl. Need to know what carb is on your engine.Moe

The carb has a small manual injector that will squirt gas down the carbs throut when you pump the throtle. If this is not working you may have to open the carb and replace the rubber seal around it ... kind of like the old bicycle pump had to have a leather washer in it to work. The seal may be cracked or broken.
Hope this helps

Hi my Holden Vectra 2001 JS model has over the last week increased fuel consumption on a daily basis according to the display in the dash, its now up to 17.9/L per 100klm.

The gas mileage is instantaneous based on how far down you press the gas pedal which governs air and fuel intake. You should check your consumption by how often you fill up with gas rather than the instant readout. If you are using more gas, have your car serviced and tuned. Change the air filter yourself as that is very easy and contributes to good economy.

Used the wrong gas

Open the gas fill door, remove the gas cap and smell the gas fill tube area. If it has a kerosene like smell then you may have filled it with diesel fuel. If so select your favorite garage to drain the tank and flush the fuel system to remove the diesel.
This vehicle should run on any type of gasoline so I suspect the fluid you put in was not gasoline.

Truck will not start after filling with gas.wait a few minutes it cranks and runs fine.any suggestions?

Which brand? What kind of gasoline? Some cars doesn't run with all gasoline grades also there is some gas station with poor quality of gasoline.
Happened to my car too, I always use SHELL but one day I stop in the MOBIIL gas station to put some gas, got home and the next day the car won't start had to by the STP aditive to put in the gas tank. wait about 10 minutes and car starts fine.
Another thing is my car won't run good with all gasoline grades
I always use the regular one.

Gasoline in a diesel tank

Hi,Did you start the vehicle after you put the gas in the tank? A drain plug is fitted underneath the tank, drain the tank of gas then fill it half way or more it may run a little sluggish at firs but the amount of diesel to gas ratio will mean it will do no harm.Hope this helps.

The motor missed fire an acceleretion . after the truck was stop over 1 mounth.(escape 2003)

I'll bet it misfires because of the old gasoline. Since it was sitting for that long, you should remove the old gasoline from the car and put in fresh gasoline. You might want to put in a can of seafoam in the gas tank as well to clean up anything the old gasoline could have left behind.

Next time, if you're planning to have your car sit for a few weeks or more, put fuel stabilizer (such as Seafoam) into the gas tank before you leave. That way, you can safely start it when you come back.

JUST DRAIN OUT GASOLINE IN FUEL TANK.CHANGE FUEL FILTER AND.FILL UP TANK WITH DIESEL FUEL. ENGINE WILL RUN ROUGH UNTIL ALL GASOLINE LEAVES THE FUEL LINES.

I have a 83 ford ltd . I filled it with gas .The next day I drove it about 50 miles ! It started shugging til it finally stopped ! I then put a hanger down in the gas tank to check for gas ! It had gas in...

The 83 still used a carb and mechanical fuel pump I believe.
And the fuel pump is probably bad.
Check the oil and make sure it is not over filled with gasoline.
Take the fuel line off the carb, and see if the pump squirts when engine cranked.
Open the gas cap as well, so make sure a stuck purge valve is not holding the gas back.

When I go to fill up the gas tank the gas keeps cutting off at the pump handle and I have to slow the gas pump to a trickle in order to fill the tank.

The problem is that your gas tank "pushes back" like it's full even when it isn't and makes the fuel valve click off. Tom and Ray on Car Talk covered this in a 2007 show and I pasted some of their response below:

"RAY: This condition is probably caused by either a blockage in your gasoline vapor recovery lines or a bad refueling control valve.

TOM: Gasoline vaporizes. How do we know that? Well, when gasoline is spilled, you can smell it, right? What you're smelling is vaporized gasoline.

RAY: And in the old days, when you filled up your tank, all the air inside the tank -- the air filled with gasoline vapors -- came whooshing out through the filler hole or through a vent at the top of the gas tank.

TOM: But then people in places like Los Angeles realized they couldn't see the person standing next to them due to smog. And since gasoline vapors contribute to smog, car makers were forced to install devices to capture those vapors.

RAY: So now each car has a vapor recovery unit that collects the gasoline vapors from the tank and then, the next time the car is started, sends them to the engine, where they're combusted. Your vapor recovery system isn't working, Lottie. One possibility is that one of the rubber hoses is blocked or collapsed."

The fuel pump is bad you will need new. You may be able to obtain an in line check valve and install in fuel line between pump and carb so gas can';t drain back when sits.
