Question about 2008 Toyota Tacoma
I have had my Tacoma for about 2 years now. I keep hearing this engine ping or scrap when i get to about 45-55MPH. I don't have the pedal down all the way, but it does happen while i am accelerating. The issue can happen when the engine is hot or cold. I believe that it is a piston or piston rod that is misconfigured. I have taken it into Toyota to have it looked at many times and they never hear it. Of course when i do a ride along to get the noise to happen its not there. I know that tacomas are supposed to make a lot of piston noise, but this sound didnt start happening until about 5000 miles ago. What worries me even more is that when it is really cold i get a hard knocking sound in my engine that i can feel on my brake and accelerator. Does anyone know what i can do to get them to hear this sound? I am at 25000 miles on my truck and i need them to fix this before my warranty expires.
Try running premium gas if it goes away, if not have them check the valve clearance.
