It sounds like you have a bad "cv".

You will have to put the car up and move the wheels side to side.if there is play there is a ball joint or tie rod end or stabilizer bar link that is bad.
it could also be a cv joint that is gone, look for a cracked boot or grease on the driveshaft.

Sounds like you have a bad cv joint [constant velocity] depending on what side you hear the popping on is the side with the bad joint. turn the steering wheel in the direction of the popping noise. get out and look behind the wheel for a round shaft that extends into the back of the wheel. you should see a rubber boot that has torn and alowed the grease to leak out. the fix is to replace the axle or have it replaced.

The large end should fit the rubber grommet, so it goes down. The small diameter end should connect to the vacuum line.

How do I know if my 1998 escort zx2 has antilock breaks or not ?

Just turn on the key look for an abs light. Also you can look behind each front wheel for an abs sensor wire.

My car keeps pulling to the right its a ford escort est 1998

You need to get an alignment, and i think you will find that some of your front end parts, such as ball joints and tie rod ends, have reached the end of their service life and will need to be replaced before an alignment can be done.

Bad front end noise on 98 ford escort, sounds like something breaking or is broken and is rubbing against something else. was able to drive it slowly 10 miles to the station where I work so I could leave...

Hi my name is Tom and I am here to help you.

Yes, something is broken on your front end. I am going to guess that it is a broken strut or shock. As you drive the broken strut or shock will cause the car to "bottom out" sounding like someone hit the car with a baseball bat.

I would not wait long or drive your car until you or someone check the true nature of the problem. If you give me more info I can be more specific. Either way I trust I was of some help with your problem.

When i turn it makes a noise dont know if it is power steering fluid low or pump

If its a winding sound its the power steering, if its a clunking sound you should check your tie rods Idler arms (well check the entire front end suspension if you hear knocking, odds are if one part is bad the others aren't far behind) Good luck

New Breaks Knocking...

the knocking noise is caused by the pads walking. the shims that fell out go 1 ontop and 1 on will have to take the caliper back off that is the 2 14mm. bolts one is longer than the other so pay close attention .once removed the spacers should half should slide on the knuckle assembly 1 up 1 down .then slide caliper back over. thanks!

Clattering noise

Be sure to check the front struts and mounts. Open the hood and try to bounce the front-end up and down as much as possible while looking at the strut mounts.

Ford Escort 1998 central locking

Are you talking about the key cylinder or the electric lock button? If you are talking about the key,you need to remove the door panel and watch the lock rod move up and down. There is a plastic clip that pops open or breaks from age. If you are talking about the electric lock, will the passenger door lock move when you press the lock button on the drivers door? Does the passenger door make a grunt noise when trying to lock/unlock?
