U can not program it at home it requires a GM electronic scan tool to input the code info into the control module.

There is no manual way to program keyless remotes to this vehicle. Please contact your local dealership to get a quote on how much it will cost to program keyless remotes to this vehicle

Has to be done by a dealer or a locksmith with the proper GM Tool, and also has to be the correct part and remote number.

I lost my only key for my 2001 cadillac catera, how can I get a new one?

You need to get an aftermarket coded key which can be cut by the serial number of the vehicle.
You need to be a locksmith to get the cut codes or know a locksmith.
Then you have to get the car to the dealer and have the key programmed using the Tech 2 scanner.

You can take the car to the dealer and have them give you a key, programmed and everything but it will cost around $300 for the 1st key.

I bought a 2001 Catera for $1,500.00 because it had no keys.

I used serial number to get key codes and cut the key; doors opened and seller retrieved her personal stuff.
I towed car to dealership and had the key programmed; $130 for 10 minutes work (min 1 hour shop charge).
I then programmed 3 more keys (using a key code reader) instead of letting the dealership rape me.

BTW, they (dealer) also want $350 for a programmed door remote; the stock remote!
Instead, I bought a remote starter unit (Bulldog) with 2 remote fobs for $100 and now my wife can start and find her car easily.

I have a 98 catera, it wont start, security light flashing. bought a new key and tried to get it programmed and they said they cant pull the key code. said the immobilizer is bad, where is it located ? on...

It is a white or beige looking ring around the key switch and its why the key is recessed in the column so it enters the reactor ring. If you remove the top and bottom halves of the column cover, you should see it.

I have a 98 Cadillac Catera. The problem is when I turn the key the car doesn't turn over.I think it is the switch because lights & gauges are staying on with key turned off. I can jump the starter...

Hello, from the description that you have given I think you may be right, I think that the switch has passed its use by date. However have it checked by an auto electrician to confirm this before spending to much money. Best of luck with it, hope this helps.

We are locked out of our cadillac catera 1998. remote died last week and the key will only allow us to lock the door not unlock and there is only the keyhole in the drivers side....Help!!

This is a common problem with these cars, what you need to do is first be sure the battery is replace on the remote itself the take a watch battery and have a number on the battery to identify the correct replacement. If this doesn't work and the battery in the car is dead the wire going to the starter must be located and energized by jacking up the car and hooking up the red wire of a pair of jumper cables to starter's terminal where the large wire connects. After doing that connect the remaining black jumper wire to a suitable ground under the vehicle, proceed to connect the jumper cables to a fresh battery and then try the keyless entry remote.

Reset 98 cadillac catera alarm

You can get one from the dealer or on ebay.
I would recommend an aftermarket unit with car starter. Much cheaper, 2 remotes and starts the car as well.
