Serious miss, almost like dropped cylinder, No codes. shop says fuel injector but want 500.00 to change.I do not know fuel injection at all. I quit wrenching before injection. I can buy a set of injectors but isn.t there some electrical components to the ford 5.0 system? field coils etc.

thanks, yes there is spark, I was going to check plugs physically (time anyhow) probably 50K on them. I quit wrenching way back when but still have tools. I just did not want to spend a couple of hundred on injectors then find that there are other compnents. diesel injectors were mechanical but I do not know anything about these electrical ones. the catalogue pictures for the injectors did not show much in way of components. where does the timing for the electrical come from?

All comments were excellent and yes, you guys did answer mmy questions. 1990 F-150 5.0, 180,000 miles.

Your timing is all electronic controlled, with the vehicles computer, cam and crank sensors. There are no adjustments you can make. Injectors are simple, and your mechanic may have anaylized it correctly.

what year and what engine, Generic is not enough info.

  • its420_us May 11, 2010

Check your spark first. If you're getting spark to all cylinders, you're good there. If you wrenched before fuel injection, you can easily do this yourself. Disconnect your negative battery cable, then remove the retaining bolts on the fuel rail and lift it up. The injectors are sealed with rubber "O" rings, a wire clip attached, and thats it. Much easier than the old days.

I don't know what year your ford is but most of them have the injectors mounted externally. There not bad at all to do. Vehicle off, release fuel-line pressure, remove the bolts holding down fuel rail, pull the injector/s out of the head, lap injector o-ring with motor oil, install new injector/s into head. lap top o-ring with motor oil, install fuel rail, start vehicle, and check for leaks. If you are only replacing a few injectors do buy new injector o-rings for the other injectors. You will not be able to push the fuel-rail back onto the injectors without replacing them (they will be swolen).

Cn fuel pressure regulator cause a dead miss on 92 chevy lumina?

A fuel pressure regulator maintains sufficient pressure for all the injectors to operate correctly. If it is not working properly you will have random missing on all cylinders as the injectors are starved for fuel to inject. If you have a constant miss in one cylinder then by moving that injector to a different cylinder will prove injector or spark/coil problems Run fault codes to determine the fault area.

Ramdom misfire 4.2 Chevrolet trailblazer

Code 303 is for a miss on cylinder number 3.
The problem could be ignition, fuel injector, or compression.
The code means the computer saw a drop in RPM for that cylinder.

My engine light is on all the time after i warm it up when i start driving its misfireing bad once i let up on it the light stops blinking and it stops missfireing until i push on the gas

Sounds normal when you have a cylinder miss.
The flashing light means the problem is serious.
You would have the computer scanned for trouble codes then research the codes. You should get a code telling you which cylinder is not providing power and you check the ignition and fuel injector for that cylinder or cylinders.

I have a bad miss in a 97 4.6

If you have a code for a miss on one cylinder, it could be the fuel injector instead of the ignition. It could also be a stuck or burnt valve problem.

How do i check injectors on 97 camaro 3.8 to see if one is clogged?

One way would be to hook a fuel pressure gauge up to the rail and trigger each injector to see if fuel pressure drops.
If one is clogged up you should be getting a cylinder miss code from the computer.

DTC P0300, P0301,P0303

The codes are for a random miss, and a miss on cylinders 1 and 3.
It could be ignition or the fuel injectors, or a vac leak or mechanical problem such as a cam.
The computer sees a drop in RPM on those cylinders noting a drop in horsepower.
A mechanic would verify those two cylinders are firing and getting fuel then check for mechanical problems.

1997 ford expedition 190k miles. Engine was missing. code said it was miss firing in the third cylinder. Replaced all ignition coils and sprak plugs also fuel pump. After 100 miles it started with the same...

It could be a bad computer that doesn't fire the fuel injector on that cylinder. Or, the fuel injector is clogged on that cylinder.

The fuel injector should have a telltale click when listening to it operating on that cylinder, and it should also make a noid light blink indicating current is getting to the fuel injector, when the fuel injector harness is connected to a noid light.

Good luck on this repair.

I'd change shops. it's clear the miss is on #6 cylinder. you will need to see if your getting spark on that cylinder and check for fuel getting to that cylinder also check for vaccum leak around #6 injector.
