Question about 1996 Volvo 960

Climate control blower noise and vibration

I checked for paper/plastic in the intake opening and there's none visible. Also, the spring-loaded intake door does not seem to open when the fan is running, but I can push it open with a screwdriver. If I decide to remove the blower, do I have to worry about activating the passenger-side airbag(s). Thanks. Harry

If is making noise check cabin filther dirt falls into motor and eventually it fails VOLVO CLIMATE CONTROL can be a nightmare to fix due to bad evaoporators and sensors i have been studying Volvo ECC (climate control and i am an expert in THIS FIELD) THERE ARE 20 PAGES OF VOLTAGE TESTS and othr tests just get a used one and replace it it is not worth salvaging and easy to replace

Why do we have an Oder that smells and burns our eyes when blower is turned on?

first check the air intake to the climate system. ie. the cabin filter etc. for contamination.its more than likeley the blower speed control unit is faulty. may be resistance or electronic module depending on vehicle. sounds like plastic is overheating to give that problem. without knowing what vehicle it is the only clue that i can give you is that the speed control will be in the air intake before the climate unit ie. heater/aircon behind the dash. hope this helps.

My blower only blows threw the defrost vents. all climates everything, no matter where i put the control knob. dealership says the solenoid got stuck closed after using my 4 wheel drive.

Assuming you have vacuum controls at the heater control head, you have a classic vacuum leak in the hose from the engine intake manifuold to the control head, or the vaccum storage canister somewhere in the engine compartment. It is required to fail to defrost by law.

Climate Control Assembly
The climate control assembly has 3 system controls:
  • The function selector switch combines a vacuum selector valve with 2 electrical switches to supply battery positive voltage (B+) to the blower motor control circuit and the A/C clutch circuit (if equipped).
Vacuum Control Motors
The 2 vacuum control motors:
  • are actuated by vacuum from the function selector switch.
  • position the plenum doors to direct system airflow to the vehicle's interior as determined by the function selector switch setting.
The vacuum reservoir is behind the driver fender well, black plastic ball.

If you have diesel, then you will have a vacuum motor under the hood.

Common problem.

If you have automatic climate controls, replace the blower control module mounted on the blower itself under the glovebox.

If you have manual climate controls, replace the blower motor resistor assembly, same location.

Remove the plastic skid guard under the glovebox to access the bottom of the blower motor. Remove the 2 tiny screws that attach the part. Then open and empty your glove box. Stick your finger in the access hole on the left side of the door, press the spring and the door will flip upside down. There you will have access to the wiring connectors for either part. Remove this, and the part should drop down. Very easy procedure.

Air only works on speed 5

If you have auto climate control, replace the blower motor controle module.

If you have Manual climate control, replace the blower motor resistor assembly.

Both are in the same place, on the bottom of the blower motor itself. Take off the plastic kick piece at the bottom of the glovebox to access the bottom. You'll see small screws holding the piece to the blower motor. From there, empty your glovebox and open it. You'll see an access hole to the left, stick you finger in there and depress the spring loaded piece to drop the door upside down. There you'll have access to the electrical connector from the blower resistor to the blower motor. Very easy job and is a very very common thing to go bad.

Horn doesn't work climate control blower on works

the resistor block mounted on the fan assembly ,located under the right dash is open.that will give only a high speed fan.check the fuse for the horn,and apply power directly to the horn and see if it can also put a test light on the horn and see if it lights when the horn switch is depressed.if none of those work,the horn switch in the steering wheel is no good.

Blower is on high all the time. Seems like the climate control system is not working. Didn't know if there is a blown relay? or a bad sensor?

No none of the above. There is no sensor for the blower and if the relay for the blower motor was blown then the blower won't get voltage hence wont turn on at all. Sounds to me like the climate control is shorted and is not allowing variable resistance to chance speed. Good Luck

Climate blower motor vibrates on Jaguar XJ8. Vibration is loudest at low driving speed and when the fan is set on high . Kind of like the fan blades hitting a playing card.

Sounds like plastic, leaves, or paper got sucked into the ducting, to the fan, on the blower. You'll need to access the blower motor, remove it, and remove the objects. Not sure, would be in your owners manual, but if you car has a clean-air cabin air filter. You may be able to remove the debris from there. Good Luck.

New climate control unit but when on blower not working for heat or ac

I'm assuming the problem is the blower motor isn't coming on or working. 1st, check the fuse. 2nd, remove the glove box or pull the 2 tabs that act like stops when it's open ( the glove box will open out further) and you'll see the power plug connector for the blower unit. Turn on the blower through the climate control (heat, A/C, or whatever) and wiggle the connector to see if the blower turns on. If starts working, then an easy solution is pull the connector off and gently press the prongs together or inward. Then carefully reconnect with damaging the prongs. This worked for 96 Mark VIII due to the fact the prongs were not "seating" correctly in the female connector. It's been about 2 years since I did this and the connection is still good. If wiggling the plug doesn't work, pull the plug, turn on the climate control (heat, A/C), and check for voltage to the plug. That's about all I can help with.

Blower motor or resistor?

Yes its the blower motor resistor.

More then likley theres some trash or something in it, or possibly the motor itself is on it's way out. There not that bad to pull out of that body car, just pull it out and see what you can see.

The blower motor is under the glove compartment

You can replace the resistor on your own. Please find a detailed diagram which would guide you to do it.

Blower motor

You have problems with one or more vacuum lines.
The flow of air is controlled by opening or closing ducts with vacuum.
Check the vacuum reservoir under the hood (probably a round plastic canister with two hoses attached) to make sure one of the spigots is not broken off (yeah, it's plastic) and the hoses are intact.
One of the hoses leads to the intake manifold the other goes to the in-dash control unit.

If you see no problem there, you will have to pull the control assembly from the dash and check those hoses too.

I wuld highly recommend you spring for ~$20 US for a Haynes manual for your Jeep. About any parts store will have them.
It will help you now and maybe keep some schlock mechanic (I know, I'm not talking about you guys) from ripping you off.
