Question about 1996 Pontiac Bonneville SE CA Value
Periodically when trying to start the security light will come on and it will not turn over. have to wait about 3 minutes for security light to go off(reset?) and then it always will start after that. Local repair guy though it had something to do with the chip in the key and the sensor in the steering column not sensing the chip in the key and it thinks someone is try to steal the car. If that is the problem, how do I get around it? A real pain if you are in a hurry.
THE ONLY RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE KEY CYLINDER WITH A NEW ONE. LOCAL REPAIR GUY IS CORRECT. IF THE TINY SENSOR IN THE KEY SWITCH DOESN'T RECIEVE THE EXACT RESISTANCE FROM THE CHIP IN THE KEY, IT WON'T START. THE TINY SENSOR IS PART OF THE KEY CYLINDER, THAT CANNOT BE BYPASSED. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. BEST OF LUCK. ANY MORE QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK AWAY.
