WHILE THE CAR'S IGNITION IS OFF, RAISE THE HOOD AND PULL THE DIPSTICK OUT, AND WIPE IT OFF. THEN INSERT IT IN THE DIPSTICK TUBE AND PULL IT OUT ONCE AGAIN. THE OIL SHOULD BE BETWEEN THE TWO MARKS ON THE STICK. THE DIPSTICK IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVERS' SIDE OF THE ENGINE, NEAR THE INJECTOR PUMP. HOPE THIS HELPS. IF YOU CANNOT FIND IT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW SO THAT I MAY ASSIST YOU FURTHER. THANK YOU FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. GOOD LUCK

Would a bad oil pressure switch cause a no start on a 98 b2500

Hi,
Symptoms of a bad or failing Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
  • Oil Pressure Light comes on, and you check the engine oil level, But oil level is okay, you can blame the false reading on the sensor.
  • Oil Pressure Light blinking constantly. This is the normal >check< oil pressure sensor Warning that the sensor is going out.
  • If the sensor is giving false readings, Dispite oil level, the sensor could be replaced.
If the Sensor is currently not working, and does not warn you of engine oil level, and oil level gets extremely low, The Engine could burn up/stall due to lack of oil, and may not restart.
Then you could probably blame it on the sensor.
But really would be lack of oil.

Intermittent No Start,
Common causes deal with 3 basic systems/areas of engin
  1. Compression, its the build up of air and fuel into the engines cylinders. Then is compressed by the pistons. And is under pressure. FAILURE An Air leak (vacumm leak) will allow pressure to escape.
  2. Ignition System, good battery, good relays, wires are not loose or disconnected, good 10volts to starter, 10volts to distributer>gives 20kvolts to spark plugs>has strong spark to ignite compressed air in cylinders. Other sensors need to work. Crankshaft sensor(ccs) Throttle Position Sensor(TPS), +more
  3. Air/fuel Ratio, Air Intake Manifold, and Fuel Pressure Sensor *Fuel Injection Pressure Sensor---if car is fuel injected*, air filter is clean and intake manifold hose, Throttle Plate Acuater, Idle Air Contro Valve(IAC). Also vacumm leak cause no start. To much air not enough fuel will cause lean fuel mixter==low power, low idle, no start.......To much fuel not enough air will cause rich fuel mixter==too much fuel could cause engine knock, flooding of engine wet spark plugs, No Start
Scan Vehicle computer for Codes, Places like AutoZone---Discount AutoParts will connect scanner for free, And Code Will say What is wrong with Vehicle,

Transit pump code p0216 how can i fix this

P0216 DTC - Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction and this means the diesel fuel injection pump has a timing failure. This could be that the injection pump timing needs adjusted OR the failure is internal to the injection pump and therefore non-adjustable.

NOTE: If your vehicle is a Dodge Ram with Cummins engine then be aware that fuel delivery problems frequently cause this code. Prolonged fuel delivery problems can cause injection pump failure!

Symptoms of a P0216 DTC may include:
Low power
Crank, but no start
Hard start
Displays an intermittent stumble or miss
Engine may start and then stall
Engine may appear to drive fine but surge at idle

The most frequent cause of this code is a bad injection pump due to poor fuel delivery. Fuel delivery problems could be:
A plugged diesel fuel filter
An in-tank blockage
Air in the fuel due to a cracked in-tank fuel ine above the fuel level
Bad transfer (lift) pump
Injection pump out of time

Possible Solutions: First, simply check if your injection pump timing is adjustable. If so, check the timing and adjust if necessary.

If you think that you may have a fuel delivery problem, then check the lift pump operation. On Dodge Ram with the Cummins engine, the lift pump should produce about 45 oz of diesel in 25 seconds of operation. This can be performed by disconnecting the fuel hose from the injection pump and pumping the fuel into an approved container. Bump the engine over but do not start it. Then the lift pump will operate for 25 seconds. If the fuel is aerated, then check/repair fuel line and recheck.

With the fuel hose connected the fuel pressure should be 10psi. If the fuel delivery tests fail, replace the diesel fuel filter and recheck.

If it still fails then verify there are no restrictions in the fuel tank

Then replace the lift (transfer) pump. IT SHOULD BE NOTED that if this code surfaced after a routine fuel filter replacement or if you have any of the above symptoms after routine fuel filter replacement, then suspect the fuel transfer pump. This occurs because even a weak transfer pump can still provide enough fuel for the engine to run. But when the fuel system\'s prime is lost due to fuel filter replacement, it may not restart again without fixing the fuel delivery problem.

If you found your injection pump to be bad, the lift pump should be checked for operation to protect the new injection pump. This is because weak or low output from lift pump are common cause of injection pump failure. There are some aftermarket kits that can be purchased to warn the operator when the fuel pressure/volume drops to level that could damage the injection pump.

Hope this helps (remember to rating this free answer and leave a testimonial comments).

My car wont strat? my wife run it out of gas. now it wont strat and its got a 1/4. of gas in it.

It might just need primed Josh. Turn the key on for 10 seconds, and off for 10 seconds. Do this about 8-10 times. If this doesn't work, check your fuel pump fuse/relay or reset button if you have one.

Car lurches when accellerator is held steady

The air conditioner shutoff switch does that occasionally when the AC is on, if it's maladjusted. Does the car have an air conditioner?

Is the Distributor Cap on Securely? Has it become wet and shorted out recently {Car Wash, deep Water, Etc.}

Another thing that causes this is the fuel pump and filter assembly. Is this a fuel injected car or carburated? Have the injectors or filters been replaced recently? Fuel filter is the first thing to swap out since it is starting already. A plugged filter can burn up the electric pump. And change the Air Filter too.

Finally, is it full of transmission fluid? What kind of transmission does it have? Automatic-> trans fluid or Torque Converter. Manual-> clutch is slipping or oily from seeping or spilled oil. Manuals need oil too, so check it's fluid level also.

The engine oil light comes on whle the car is running and here is oil in the car

IF OIL LIGHT COME ON.CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL MAKE SURE OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK AT FULL MARK.IF ALL IS GOOD DO A OIL CHANGE IF YOUR OIL HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED AT 5000 MILES INTERVALS.IF OIL GOOD CHECK OIL PRESSURE.SHOULD BE 43 - 78 PSI. IF NOT OIL PUMP COULD BE FAULTY.IF OIL PRESSURE OKAY.YOU HAVE FAULTY OIL SENDING UNIT.

The engine turns over, diagnostics has no codes It's getting fuel I've replaced the Ignition control module It starts when ever it wants to.

Check your fuel pressure. I know your propbably thinking im nuts here but faulty fuel pumps are typically the culprit when a car starts sometimes and not others. With the new (er) fuel injection systems the ECM (cars computer) requires a predetermined ammount of pressure from the pump. If that pressure is not at the proper level the car will not start. I know your probably thinking "Why does it fire sometimes then?" Well, again this is a very common symptom of a faulty fuel pump, When a fuel pump starts going bad sometimes they do operate properly and sometimes they dont because the sending unit is getting weak. Infact the newer fuel injection systems like CSFI (central Sequential Fiel Injection) or SFI are known to be so picky that a loss of 1 to 2 PSI can prevent the car from starting. Don't go changing the pump without checking for pressure (do the check several times because of the car running when it wants to) as fuel pumps for most new cars can run up to $300. The other possibility however highly unprobable would be symptomatic of a faulty or failing NOX sensor.

SOUND LIKE THE ELECTRIC LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CHECK FUSE TO SEE IF PUMP GETTING POWER. IF NOT REPLACE FUSE AND CHECK THE WIRE TO PUMP.IF PUMP IS GETTING POWER..REPLACE FUEL FILTER FIRST.IF IT DONT HELP.COULD BE THE ELECTRIC LOW PRESSURE PUMP. FAULTY. IT PUMPS DIESEL FUEL IT INTO INJECTION PUMP TO BE PRESSURIZED TIMED AND INJECT.SEE IF LOW PRESSURE PUMP DONT WORK THE WHOLE ENGINE WONT RUN.THE INJECTION PUMP NEED FUEL FROM LOW PRESSURE ELECTRIC PUMP TO RUN ENGINE.

The yellow oil light comes on for about 5-10 secs when you start the car from cold, and then goes off.

Hi

The usual problems that would give you a delay in the oil warning light going out are...

1. Oil contaminated by fuel, and thin due to fuel injection system problems, and fuel draining into sump.

( How long ago did you last change the oil and filter ? Usually about....1 Yr or 12.OOO Mls)
Wipe oil from engine dip stick on tissue, and smell it for fuel !

Have you noticed you use a lot of fuel lately, and the car blows black smoke from exhaust on hard acceleration ?

2. Oil Warning light transmitter faulty. ( The Most Common !)
3. Oil pump pick up strainer clogged.
4. Oil pump faulty.
5 Oil draining back into the sump from the oil filter.( Faulty check valve )

If I were you, I would change the Oil and Filter, and renew the Oil Warning Light Transmitter, and go from there.
If you have a Master Oil Pressure Guage, fit it to the block when the O/W/ Transmitter is off, and run engine to confirm pressure is there from start up, and what it reads when hot, this will put your mind at ease.

Good Luck !

John.
