Starter clicks but does not turn over

2001 Mazda MPV, 133,000 miles, no collisions, car will not start. Can turn key over and hear a click from the starter, but that's it. My open door indicator flashes periodically as well. Battery is only 1 year old.

Typically, this is indicative of a worn out starter. inside the starter there is a coil that pushes the drive gear into the flywheel (this is what makes the click) and then there is a motor that turns the drive gear. The armature bushings of the motor are likely worn, and having difficulty making continuity. (sometimes lightly tapping the back end of the starter with a hammer will get it to work). ultimately, the starter has to be replaced. best of luck

Ok did you try jumpping it. it takes 12volts to light and it takes 1500 amps to start a car. so dont think that. now make sure your conection are tight.

My mazda mpv has trouble starting

Not sure what you are describing as the sound, but it could be a faulty starter. Sometimes the brushes in the starter stick and you have to "bump" the starter to get them to make contact.
A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter.

1989 MAZDA MPV NO CRANK NO START STARTER TESTS GOOD.

Assuming you've checked the battery for a possible short and both the battery and the starter for loose connections, no click sounds like a faulty starter solonoid, which could work intermittently.

Hi, I have a 1994 Mazda MPV... (6 cylinder, 2 wheel drive)...When I turn the key to start it, nothing happens except I hear a single click from the relay's (?) that are near the main computer unit under...

Take the battery somewhere to have it tested AFTER you do this:
Use jumper cables to try and start your car.
I had the same indications as you and it turned out my battery would not provide the amps (the real power in a battery) to start it.

If the car start when jumped, you need a new battery.
There is a difference between starting and turning over. The familiar whrrwhrr whrr of an engine trying to start means something all together different.

Turn off ALL accessories when starting during a jump (AC, Radio, DVD players, GPs cigarettelighter plugs, lights)

good luck and don't forget to vote!!!

Starter Trouble

It sounds like you have the Starter Solinoid Wires Crossed if the Battery cables are getting hot.
