Have you checked if there is a crack in the distributor cap? It`s also possible some water might have gotten into it

Recurring misfire of #4 coil

get a compression test done on the engine, something may be fouling out the spark plug causing the misfire to occur.

The engine is misfiring despite having the spark plugs and spark plug wires changed. It does not happen all the time, usually in the morning when dew has been on the car.

Check out your crank sensor and coils. For the crank sensor just first check that the connection to it is clean and free of corrosion. When it misfires does it misfire on just one or two cylinders. Many cars share coils, one for two plugs. Follow the HT leads back and see how they are shared between coils. If two cylinders sharing the same coils are misfiring then this good evidence that their shared coil needs to be replaced. Alternatively if you have separate coils physically swap the coils around and see if the misfire also moves. If it does, it is obviously a fault with a coil set.

2002 mercury sable. misfiring. taken it to get looked at. cant find why its misfiring. check engine light is on.

first take it to have the codes extracted then post them and I may have an idea as to what may be wrong with it. I know autozone will extract the code for free some other shops may as well.

Engine light on

They are still looking for a cause because it isnt misfiring right now or because they cant find the cause of the stored misfire codes ?
If it is misfiring right now and they cant figure it out then perhaps you should find new mechanics !
I have seen a lot of bad coils on the PT.
Misfire is usually caused by spark plug wires first, spark plugs 2nd, and coil third.
If it isnt misfiring now, spray down the wires with water. If it misfires after that replace the spark plug wires and spark plugs and try again.
If it still misfires then the problem will likely be the coil.

Obd2 code p0300 on mazda protege 2002

Just had one of these with a maxima, the code is multiple random misfire, when a misfire occurs, to start is do the basics, replace the plugs, check fuel pressure, clean throttle body, and coolant is topped up. also I have seen if the O2 sensor is not working correctly is can cause a misfire, you will need a scan tool to look at what the O2 sensor is doing, o rby back probing the sensor (don't damage the O2 sensor wires). If it wires replace them as well, if it has coils they usually dont give that code if one fails, it will pinpoint that a certain coil if one fals.

Engine light flashing...while accelerating...this started after I jumped someone automatically shifts to 3 gear while im going 20 miles an hour...whats wrong...

Hello and welcome!

If the light is flashing, do not drive the vehicle. This means internal damage may occur. Could be having a misfire issue (usually casues the flashing light) which could be fuel or ignition (fuel being injector issue, ignition meanig spark plugs, plug wires or coils).
