Engine runs rough while idling, and when you press on the accelerator it hesitates before revving up. EGR valve? Seems like there is something amiss with fuel delivery.
Can be egr valve, enginge usually shakes back and forth like a huge miss most times. I would definatly check in this order: fuel filter, fuel pump. Sometimes the pump may run, but be too weak to run an engine at speed or under load. If you replace the filter and pump, and it still don't help, then at least you know for sure its not the pump or filter, and move on to the egr, vacuum leaks, etc. Sometimes its a "search till you find it" type thing.

try cleaning the inside of the MAF sensor and do the following procedure as well.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
SOURCE: engine hesitates badly when accelerating
check spark plug and wire condition, try servicing injectors and check fuel preasure regulator
SOURCE: engine runs rough it take two attemps to start,
check the fuel filter, and the fuel pump pressure,it sounds like fuel pump.

Sounds like a malfunctioning egr system. Too much egr gasses at once will lean out the air fuel mixture and cause hesitation in an engine. Just my 2 cents.
SOURCE: hesitates in idle and power
scan car then maybe a tuneup-change plug wires etc--fuel area also-pump cud be old or throttle body and idle motor needs cleanin--injectors also--parts place can help too
