Question about 1993 Toyota Previa

93 toyota previa won't start if i try to within 20 minutes

Especially in warm humid weather when i drive the Previa and it gets fully warmed up. then i stop.......say, for 10 or 15 min.........when i try to start it ... NOTHING, no click no nothing. sometimes a jump will help, sometimes not. BUT if i leave it for an hour or two and let it cool down it ALWAYS starts up, easy as pie. i had an old chevy van that did a similar thing and it was the neutral safety switch that chevy had cleverly places low on the transmission so it could **** up all the road goo making it intermittant in a similar way. but the previa has that switch much more protected. WHAT TO DO??

I have a 1997 Premio (like Carina) diesel and I have the same prob. My diagnostic says Throttle Position Sensor Circuit. Does it give white smoke when it doesn't start? It might also have to do with fuel injection then. Press the accelerator pedal fully and try to start when hot. Strangely, after doing that, my problem was solved. But mechanics give other views...

The reason I asked if you had your starter worked on recently is whoever did the work may not have installed a simple but critical part while doing the repair. Chevrolet had the same issue years ago; the starter sits very close to the exhaust, and gets very hot. If the starter gets too hot, “it will do nothing”. The issue was resolved by putting a thin, insulated shield between the starter and exhaust. The repair is quite simple, yet very effective. Putting a starter heat shield in place will resolve your issue.

I hope this information helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

Sounds like a head gasket leaking water in from the cooling system. Does it run OK? Any water in the oil on the dipstick and a mayonnaise type film on the oil filler cap?

When i shift up from second to third gear it feels sticky, Whats wrong, I drive a 1996 toyota previa

This problem can be due to cheap fluid being in the transmission

put some synchromesh in it and it should smooth out your shifting.

This can be a serious problem, especially when the engine warms up and the cheap or old fluid thins out.

Check this video out, it is not the same model as yours but the ideas and the general location of parts are the same.

I dont know why my 93 previa wont run anymore, it cranks and wants to start but fails, i dont know if i need new spark plugs or its the fuel pump. it has 250,995 miles on it. the only problem i had with is...

The high idle is affects it ability to start up, but the main problem is the fuel pump ,to deliver proper fuel to start the vehicle up, the previa is also equipt with a cold start injector, try this cycle the ignition but just dont start we will let it build pressure, cylcle it and do you hear the humming noise thats the fuel pump, cycle it again, now crank it hopefully this helps

The heater on my Toyota Previa is not working and the temp gauge is not moving even when the car has been running for a while. Please help

the engine cooling system thermostat could be stuck open. This will cause the engine to take forever to warm up, especially in cold weather. The thermostat is inexpensive and easy to change. A new one could fix your problem quickly.

1993 toyota previa. car starts when cold, but if i drive car 4 a while and turn it off it wont start until i let it sit 4 a couple of hours.

Corroded positive battery terminal. Clean both the terminal and the battery post and tighten clamp bolt. Don't just tighten bolts. There's a layer of corrosion that conducts when cold/damp and gets warm during starting and charging, dries out, and then won't conduct.

When you say "warning light is on", I assume you are not talking about the oil pressure gauge...
If not, here is your solution:
What you have is a very common problem: The oil LEVEL sensor has failed. Previas have 2 sensors; pressure & level of the oil in the pan...What you need to do is replace it, Toyota part number : 89491-28030.
BUT...This part is $380.45. Not cheap; Sorry but true.
