Question about 1998 Ford Contour
Car runs fine, fluids checked, other than the knocking at about 55mph. The slamming will start for a while then stop as if nothing is wrong. it happens about every other day. Its as if the car slips out of gear, with my foot on the accelerator and then the RPM's shoot up, and almost immediatly slams back into gear. Had the transmission looked at, and they said it was fine, is there some kind of sensor or something i need? Please help!!
The switch that tells the computer what gear the car is in is bad. It's located on top of trans and can be replaced fairly easy. If it is white or gray it has been revised to black. Believe it is called range selector switch. About 80.00 at Ford dealer.
