When you changed you valve cover gasket did you torque it to specs? also did you use some type of sealant around the holes where the plugs go through as well as each corner and complete left side where the semicircle cutout is? pull all of your plugs and see if they are oil fouled this would prevent a spark and you engine wouldn't start if it's bad enough.

Have lots of water and smoke exiting the exuast have changed, oil, and both rocket covers with gasket Blowing smoke and water out of exhaust, changed oil and the oil filter..was broken down.old

Some water is expected on low emission vehicles, It's from the oxidation process of the catalytic converter. What color smoke ? Blue - oil , black it's running rich . White - coolant , blown head gasket . You don't want to use stop leak ,it will plug radiator an heater core . Fix the problem right ! Take it to a ASE certified repair shop . Some people are just not meant to work on cars !

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5L that is leaking oil into the spark plug tubes; can these seals be replaced or does the valve cover have to be replaced?

Yes, you need a Rocker cover (valve cover) Gasket kit. Remove the valve cover, remove all old O-rings and cover gasket, clean grooves and mating surfaces without gouging or scratching them, put the new gaskets on as per factory recommendations, tighten to the proper torque and you're done. The spark plug holes in the cover are part of the valve cover gasket kit. Any Napa, Car Quest, Pep Boys, Auto Zone will have it.

I pulled a spark plug to change plugs and the spark plug wire boot was all wet from oil. The other three plugs were fine. The rest of the engine looked fine apart from the regular dirty engine look. No oil...

yes, the valve cover gasket is the only thing that can cause this, and yes, you have to remove the cover and put a new gasket in to fix. Please let me know if you have more questions.

SPARK PLUGS FULL OF OIL

Do you notice a puddle under the car? Or smoking when you shut it off? The rocker cover gaskets are the culprit. If you have the spark plugs in a well inside the rocker cover, the will fill up with oil and also leak out the back. You can replace the gaskets, a fairly easy job, you have to pull everything off the top of the engine to get the covers off. And they give you the new seals for the spark plug well with the gasket kit. They only go about 10 years, I replaced mine and they are starting to leak again. Hope this helps.

Changed the spark plugs and the old ones were covered in oil

i'm guessing that your car is a 4-cylinder. this is common for inline 4-cylinder engines. since the spark plug holes usually go through the valve cover, the valve cover gasket will leak and collect in the spark plug holes. to fix this you will have to replace the valve cover gasket.

Oil leaking into sparkplug holes on rubber boots

Buy a new valve cover gasket set (and a small tube of silicon high temp sealer). It comes with new rubber seals for each sparkplug hole, and the cover perimeter.Use a little silicon glue on the gaskets to hold them in place. Take your time,do the work with a cold engine in a shaded area. Clean all the oil off the wires and make sure all the old gasket rubber is cleaned off.And check to make sure before you put the cover back on that no old gasket pieces are in the engine.

Car will kick over when starting ignition but wont start

Sounds like your valve cover gasket is leaking oil into your spark plugs and is causing both of your problems.  if you have oil on one of your plugs then that plug can't fire correctly causing the car not to start.  I would suggest that you change the plug that has been fouled by the oil and check the wire if it got a lot of oil on it as well as the oil can degrade their ability to insulate, and the plugs will start arcing up the sides and engine will start misfiring. You should be able to change the valve cover gasket relatively easy with a couple of tools.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for ranking my response and for using FixYa!

Oil around spark plugs on 1992 honda accord

Yes the oil can cause the car to lose spark, the oil leak could be caused by the valve cover gaskets around the spark openings, but 9 times out of 10 it is the spark plug tube "O" rings. The top of the valve train comes off of the head, the "O" rings are between the two halves, that will fix the oil leak.

2001 jaguar s-type 4.0 oil in spark plug area

Hi bravo956
i also have the same problem regarding the oil leak. this is due to the spark plug gasket leaking and you will need to replace them. they are circular gaskets about 1.5 inches across that fit to the underside of the rocker covers and prevent oil from seeping down the long spark plug hole. when i investigated my leak i assumed it was just the rocker cover gasket that was leaking but once everything was removed it is obvious.
