In some brand of alternators the regulator and brushes are an integral part and it is a matter of removing 2 screws and lifting out the part. On others the regulator is entirely separate unit located some where else on the vehicle. The voltage of 15.3 is on the upper end of the charge rate but it would be acceptable . Nominal voltage for a regulator is 14.5 to 15.5 volts. Understand that a battery is actually 13.2 volts not 12 volts and you need 14 volts for the battery to charge effectively. The higher the voltage the higher the amperage to run everything so if your alternator regulator is set at 14.5 volts then the max amps of the alternator would not be reached and if you have a current draw to run everything that is more than the output of the alternator then the battery will eventually go flat. Find yourself a reputable auto electrician and discuss the problem with him not a local mechanic

Hi
The only thing that I need is the diagram on how to connect a voltage regulator (12 V), car unit
on my wind generator motor which my produce more than 12 V, according to the wind speed.
Sincerely

had same problem it was fuseable links by battery old and brittle

This is alittle tricky getting to some of the bolts but its not too hard to do otherwise. 2 bolts hold on the starter IIRC they are 13mm bolts. make sure your battery is dissconected by the black cable. then there will be 2 nuts holding on the starter wires. one will be 8mm and the other 13mm. remove them with care cause the wires may and can break. when you remove starter check wires for corrosion or if they look fraigle. repair them if damaged.
then to put it back in is the same way you took it out. should take about 1.5 hrs total if you have never done it before.
Overall i would say skill level 3/10 only cause its trickey getting to that top bolt sometimes.
good luck,
Michael
SOURCE: dodge neon 2002. My alternator is not charging,
wires run direct to alternator from battery ,test big lead for a permanant 12v supplyon the back of the alternator if you have one then the problem is either the brushes worn out or the commutator worn through.or the regulator either way its a recon unit as parts are not sold seperate anymore as not many dealer mechanics know how to repair anything and the spares shops make more profit on a unit than parts so they do not sell spares to stop people like me and you from doing our own repairs
