1.See if it's bent. See if part of it is broken upon close examination. Sometimes there's a crack that is overlooked. When you go to insert the dipstick, the broken part moves the wrong way.

2.Turn it around, and try again. Yes I know that sounds ludicrous, but sometimes just turning it 180 degrees side for side, will allow it to go in.

Oh really? Reach down, and see if you can turn the dipstick tube. Sometimes the tube loosens in the engine block, and turns.

(If so, you'll learn to hate this. This will mean you have to reach down everytime, align the dipstick tube, and reinsert the dipstick. No fun when you're on your way to work, and you look down at your hands!)

If this isn't it, I really suggest you have part of the dipstick broke off, and it's down in the hole. (Yes, I know how that sounds. Ludicrous again)

I have a 99 jeep it started acting crazy and checked the oil the dip stick said it was bone dry so I put 3 quarts in it and checked the oil again and this time it was about 3 quarts to much

my guess is you used the wrong dip stick,
i cant watch you mess up. so....no jeep stated a 99 what?
wrangler, Cherokee or grand Cherokee?
so i bet you have an automatic trans, right?
then pulled the dip stick on trans thinking its the engine
or the reverse. bad news if true.
rigth?
find someone that knows the difference or read the lost operators guide.

and error 2, the stick empty is not bone dry, not ever.
yes real low. so and 1/2 quart at a time , not 3 qt ever.
until the engine stick is at normal..

if this is a transmission, and you put engine oil in there
all hope is lost. and the method is hot running, to add ATF fluids.
unlike the engine method.
my best guess totally BLIND>

I have a 2000 Durango with a 5.9 liter and it wont turn over. Engine started running a little rough and then quite running all together. It turned over a few times then quit. there is oil in the dip stick...

way too much oil. check the coolant level as the sump may be full of water. It will run with a faulty o2 sensor. run fault codes as there could be a cam/crank position sensor problem

Where do I add Transmission fluid on a 95 ford Probe??

So you know, I am not insulting you. I don't know what you know or what you don't know. From your symptoms, I'm confused. If you pulled the trani pan down and the trani dip-stick still read "Full", you pulled the wrong dip-stick. Your transmission takes Mercon and you will need a narrow funnel that will fit inside the trani dip-stick tube. Follow the dip-stick tube all the way to the bottom and verify that it goes to the transmission. When you pulled the trani pan down you should have four or more quarts empty into your drain-pan. Until you can confirm that the the trani is properly filled, don't continue to use the car. Running the engine while the trani is empty can damage internal componants. If you have any questions, please write back, good luck.

Where does the motor oil go for a durango 2001?

pop the hood and on top close to middle of the engine, theres a black plastic cap with either an oil dripper icon on it or oil written on it. pour the oil into there. easier with funnel. keep checking the oil dip stick to make sure you don't over fill it. take out the dipstick, wipe oil off with towel, fully reinsert dip stick, then immediatley take back out to see the level. the oil mark should be between fill and full marks. If you have enough oil in the motor, and the oil light is flickering on and off you might need an oil pressure sensor (take to local shop)

I have a 99 Cabrio and there is no transmission dip stick. According to the manual, you cannot add transmission fluid to the transmission yourself, you have to take it to a dealer.

How do i refill the transmission oil in my 1997 Micra auto (1 ltr). Can't find the cap.

Hi: To Refill your Auto Transmission with Tranny Fluid, There is NO CAP, Look For a Dip Stick Similar to your Oil Dip Stick. You Refill your Transmission where the Transmission Dip Stick comes out of a Tube. You'll Need a Funnel that Fits inside the Transmission Dip Stick Tube. This Should Resolve your Question. Please Vote and That actually sends me How Well I have Helped You. How to check transmission fluid and fill if nessesary.

if it is an automatic transmission, the dip stick is under the hood and should be on the drivers side of the engine, start the car leave it in park, pull the dip stick out and wipe it off with a cloth, reinstall the dip stick in the filler tube completely, and remove again and notice where the fluid level is on the dip stick,if you need to add fluid to bring it up to full, the correct fluid for your car is printed on the dip stick, you need a transmission funnel and put in in the tube you pulled the dip stick out of.
if you transmission is a standard, there is a 5/8 bolt on the side of the transmission you remove and put something like a screw driver in the hole to see where the fluid level is,.
