Thanks, but I'm all set, I realized that the window motor did not need to be replaced. After I manually pushed the window up and put the motor back in, it worked. the problem was that the gear slipped off the track.

Make sure that you are getting voltage to the motor check the main switch on the drivers side control. all the voltage for the rest of the windows has to pass through the driver side control switch

BOTH POWER WINDOS

I just went thru this 4 months ago. Both windows stopped working on the same day on my 95 Ford Explorer. It's the window motors. Pop off the door panel and try to see if the window regulator (looks like huge scissors) gear is stripped. If the window regulator gear is stripped, the the regulator is the problem. If not the gear isn't stripped, then it's the motor, which is hard to see. If you can't see either gear, you will have to take out the window regulator out no matter what, so take that out and inspect it. If it looks fine, then it's definitely the motor and needs to be replaced. Either way the window and regulator have to be removed. You can then remove the window motor freely. If you are unsure of how to do any of this, buy the Haynes manual for your vehicle ($20) and it will guide you through it. Toughest part is the drilling out the rivets if you have them. You can replace the rivets with screws that are slightly larger than the rivet hole you drilled out. Make sure you drill out dead center of the rivet. You can start out the drilling with a punch to help the drill bit stay centered. Good luck

I a looking for instructions on how to install a power window regulator into a 98 Acura CL

Door Glass and Regulator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the door panel.
  2. Remove the plastic cover from the door frame.
  3. Remove the power window switch from the door panel.
  4. Connect the power window switch to the door harness.
  5. Fully lower the glass.
  6. Pull the channel guide cover off.
  7. Remove the screws from the channel guide.
  8. Remove the center channel guide (if equipped).
  9. Carefully remove the glass until you can see the bolts and then carefully loosen all of them.
  10. Slide the window track guide to the rear.
Before removing the guide pin, scribe a line around it. This will enable you to install it in the exact position it was removed in.
  1. Remove the glass by gently lifting it from the guide.
  2. The glass can now be removed by pulling it through the window slot.
CAUTION Use extreme caution when handling window glass.
Check the guide pin for wear. Replace as necessary.
  1. Detach the connector and remove the regulator through the hole in the door.
Scribe a line around the rear roller guide bolt. This mark will show where the original adjustment was at before you removed the component.
  1. Remove the power window motor from the window regulator assembly.
  2. Remove any clips and pull the glass run channel out.
It may be necessary to remove the glass stopper.

WARNING Grease all of the sliding surfaces of the regulator or component failure may occur.
To install:
  1. Install the window motor on the regulator assembly.
As a check, you can connect a known good 12 volt power source to the window motor to check the operation of the entire assembly. The regulator should operate with a steady, consistent motion in either direction.
  1. Install the glass run channel into the door as shown.
  2. Install the regulator.
  3. Install the glass.
  4. Install the center channel guide.
  5. Move the glass up and down to ensure free movement.
  6. Attach the door wiring harness to the door.
  7. Disconnect the window switch (on power controlled models) and install it into the door panel.
  8. The remainder of the installation process is the reverse of removal.

Electric Window Motor - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the regulator from the door assembly. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  2. Except for the rear doors, drill a hole through the regulator sector gear and backplate. Install the bolt and nut to lock the sector gear in position. Be careful not to drill a hole closer than 7 / 16 in. (11mm) from the edge of the sector. Also, do not drill through the lift arm attaching portion of the sector gear, or the joint integrity will be jeopardized.
  3. Drill out the ends of the motor attaching rivets using a 1 / 4 in. (6mm) bit.
  4. Remove the motor and the remaining portions of the rivets from the regulator. Except for the rear doors, one rivet will not be accessible until assembly.

Fig. 1: Regulator and motor assembly-except rear doors

zjlimited_252.jpg

Fig. 2: Secure the rivets by collapsing the rivet ends using a ball peen hammer

To install:

  1. Position the new motor to the regulator. With the aid of an assistant, install new rivets by collapsing or crushing the rivet ends using a ball peen hammer.
  2. Except for the rear doors, once two of the three rivets have been installed, remove the bolt securing the sector gear to the backplate, then use an appropriate electrical source (such as the vehicle's window motor harness) to rotate the regulator, providing access to the remaining rivet.
  3. Except for the rear doors, use a flat nosed rotary file to grind off one sector gear tooth from the side which does not contact the driven gear. This is necessary to reach the remaining rivet. Remove the old rivet, then install the remaining new rivet.
  4. Install the regulator to the door assembly.

Hope this helps (remmeber to rate and comment this).

How do I revove the drivers side window in order to replace the window regulator?

First disconnect the battery and then remove the inside door panel. There are a handful of screws attaching it. One hides behind the door handle escutcheon and a couple more behind the pull handle ends and at the bottom of the panel. The escutcheon and the switches panel both are snapped into place and will pry out. The panel can then be removed by lifting up and then out. Unplug the accessories and door lock wires and place the panel aside. Gentle pull the plastic moisture barrier off as much as needed to access the inner door. Now you should be able to see the regulator and window and the wires leading to the regulator motor. The window is attached to the regulator by 2 rivets and plastic mounting disc thru 2 holes in the bottom few inches of the glass. By moving the window up and down, manually if needed, these rivets can be seen through access holes in the inner door panel. If the window has been worked on before these rivets will have been replaced by bolts. If not you will need to drill the rivets out using a 1/4" bit. It is best to prop the window from below so it can't drop and I like to put a towel inside the door at the bottom just in case. Then the glass can be lifted out of the door by lifting up. Sometimes you may have to angle it out and sometimes in as you lift and in some cases the rain strip on the outside of the door at the bottom of the window may need to bee removed for clearance.

That answers "How do I remove the drivers side window in order to replace the window regulator?" but you are not finished yet.

The motor is attached to the regulator by 3 star bit bolts which you can see through 3 holes in the panel toward the mid-front of the door. Remove these and reach inside the door to separate the motor from the regulator by pushing them apart. Then the motor can be removed, assuming it has been unplugged and the wires pulled from the clip inside the door. Then there are 4 rivets (2 top, 2 bottom) holding the regulator to the inner door panel. As before 'If the window has been worked on before these rivets will have been replaced by bolts. If not you will need to drill the rivets out using a 1/4" bit.' Then the regulator can be tilted and brought out through the large opening toward the rear of the door.
Installation is the reverse of removal with these notes:
The six rivets will need to be replaced by six 1" long 1/4" bolts with lock washers and nuts.
The lining up of the motor and the regulator cable winding mechanism takes a little twisting but will work. As well the 3 bolts connecting them take a bit of puzzle skills to align.

One last note....
Most Ford products electric window problems are either the regulator cables have jumped track or the gear plugs in the motor have deteriorated and need replacing. If your window makes a soft 'clunk - clunk-clunk' sound when you press the button then it is the gear plugs and not necessarily the regulator. In that case leave the rgulator in place and after removing the motor take the 3 screws on the large round area that is part of the motor housing and you will find the main gear and what looks like very smelly relish which is what is left of your gear plugs. The replacements are available at most parts stores for around $7. The motors themselves seldom go bad but with the labor involved (takes me about one hour per window) most shops charge $200 per window because they buy their regulators with new motors and gear plugs installed so they don't fix one thing just to have the customer return in 2 months with a different problem with the same window, the customer doesn't understand that and would want them to fix it free. I would suggest that if you change the regulator, go ahead and and spend the 87 or 8 bucks and replace the gear plugs while you have it apart. My first one took me about 3 1/2 hours as I was trying to learn and be careful, but like I said I do them in an hour or so all the time now.

Almost takes longer to explain than to do it! Hehehe, good luck!

There should be rivets holding the window to the regulator. You have to drill them out and replace them with nuts and bolts.

Power window lift motor replacement

take window out of door' remove the rivits that hold the lift motor up and remove complete motor and gear assembly. it isn't a hard job to do , just remember that there is 5 rivets to remove and 3 that hold motor to the mounting bracket . not hard to do if you have mechanical back ground. also check to make sure you have power at the plug for up and down.
