Question about 2000 Ford Escort
My Mk4 fiesta indicators won't turn on have tried changing the fuse and relay with no success ANY SUGGESTIONS THANKS Eddie
I'm assuming when you said relay you actually meant the flasher unit.
If you didn't change the flasher unit, that is where I'd start.
Assumng you have changed out the flasher, now try the left turn signal. Does it flash? Is the indicator on constantly, or is the indicator off (indicator being the tail light or front light that indicates a turn, not the indicator on the dashboard)?
Now try the right turn postion. Are the results the same as the left?
Now, put the turn signal lever in the center (off) position and turn on the emergency flashers. Do they work?
In some auto applications if a bulb is burnt out the turn signal will not flash... Usually this will only affect the side where the bulb is burnt out.
If the flasher is not flashing, ensure that it is grounded well -- use a test wire to ground the flasher to a know good ground on the car. If the test wire makes it work, then it is a grounding problem in in the flasher socket.
If none of the above work then it is back to the fuse. This time, when you remove the fuse, visually inspect to see if it is blown.
Are you absolutely sure that this fuse is for the turn and emergency flashers? Some times the labeling is not obvious.
If you are certain that the fuse is the correct fuse and it is not open, then you're gonna have to get into the wiring with a tester to ascertain whether or not you have power to the flasher.
I would approach this problem the same way I approach any problem -- I use Occam's Razor. Occam's Razor is the principle that to solve most problems in complex systems look for the simplest solution that can generate all of the symptoms.

It could well be the indicator switch that is faulty
