My 2002 GMC Yukon XL will not go into OD and it makes a whining noise. After take off, it revs to about 3500 to 4000 rmp before shifting too.

I hope so. I dont understand completely what my next move will be though. I try not to take it to the shop until I know exactly what it is. I want to self diagnose before taking it in so I dont get taken advantage of.

The OD gear is usually the 4th gear for your automatic tranny. The possible reason why you are hearing a grinding noise is because you likely have a stripped 4th clutch shaft which is very common to see. The best way to verify this is to have the car diagnosed with a scan tool and watch to see if the pcm is commanding the car to shift into 4th. If it is commanding 4th and wont physically happen it will generally not throw a trouble code. Typically any trans limp-mode type condition will go away with a key cycle and work as it should until the pcm sees a problem, but if it is a mechanical problem it will continue to exist after a key cycle such as a bad 4th clutch shaft.

2001 gmc yukon engine revs up at 20 mph changed trans filter (screen) still have same problem

If you mean it "flares" trans may have major issues. If you mean it fails to shift to next gear, likely bad shift solenoid, easily changed by dropping trans pan.

High Pitched Whine

A high pitched whine like that indicates a bad bearing. Water pump, power steering pump, accessory belt slipping, alternator bearing, or in the worst case scenerio, Transmission pump.

Can not shift gear its locked .GMC YUKON DENALI 2002

there is a shift lock solenoid that releases the shifter when the brake is applied.Check the fuse is not blown. The other thing is make sure the steering wheel has no backpressure on it.That will jam the ignition from turning.there is a cable running to the shifter in the column.

2000 yukon xl will not engage in gear

First thing I would check is Automatic transmission fluid level, you can't fill the clutch packs if there's no fluid available in the pan to do so. Does it move in forward or reverse, are there any whining/grinding noises from underneath?

Whirring noise front end 2003 yukon denali xl which seems to be coming from front left wheel or even the middle of the front end. loudest when coasting around 20 mph with little or no accelerator. Noise...

Your front pump in the transmission could be going bad. Check the transmission fluid for level and condition. The fluid should be bright red and not burnt (dark in color like burgandy). Best thing to do is take it to a transmission shop and have them check your truck for DTC codes with a Tech 2 scanner and have them do a transmission line pressure test. The whining can also indicate low on transmission fluid and that's bad, you may have burnt some of the clutch packs already and shorten the life of your transmission. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

I have a 2005 yukon xl engine that whines very fast when you push the gas and the oil pressure gauge jumps up at the same time

the whine is probably a bad bearing in the alternator or a idler pulley you can take off belt and crank up for a few seconds to see if noise goes away.if it does then it is in one of the pulleys i have seen a lot of these alternators make noise. your oil pressure will go up some when you rev up
