What are the probable causes of camshaft sensor DTC?

Camshaft sensors do go bad. They can go bad slowly, so you don't notice the badness until your engine stalls, but restarts, or you get a "check engine" light. They are not expensive or hard to replace.

How do i replace a camshaft position sensor on a 1999 lincoln continental

its relatively easy, you have to find it. it is small, black plastic , with 1 wire. and 1 bolt. it sits over and inline with the camshaft. they are usually a few dollars at the auto parts store, and they can tell you the specific location. it is generally not hard to get to. often mounted on the top front of the engine.

you should check the crank position sensor . The plug may need to be tightened up or its pins bent a bit to make a better connection. Has any other work been done recently?

Looking for the location of the camshaft sensor

The sensor should be on the drivers side bell ousing of the tranny. Get under the vehicle on this side and reach your hand up over the bell houseing and you should be able to feel it. Its not easy to get at to relace but with a little patients you can do it. You can also follow the wire in behind the motor on the drivers side along the fire wall down the lower wall to the bell housing to locate it.

If I can help more please feel free to ask!

2000 grand jeep cherokee dies while slowing down

Its not unusual for the crankshaft sensor to intermittanly fail. The crank sensors are not real expensive and are not extremely hard to change.
The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) is mounted into the engine block above the starter motor. Engine speed and crankshaft position are provided through the crankshaft position sensor. The sensor generates pulses that are the input sent to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM interprets the sensor input to determine the crankshaft position. The PCM then uses this position, along with other inputs, to determine injector sequence and ignition timing. The sensor is a Hall effect device combined with an internal magnet. It is also sensitive to steel within a certain distance from it.
Below is a pic of the sensor location.
Good luck.

Remove the camshaft position sensor from my 1999 jeepcherokee

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.7L V - 8 engine is bolted to the front side of the right cylinder head. Disconnect the sensors connector. Take out the bolt that holds the sensor in place. Lightly pry out the sensor being careful not to break it. Clean out the hole and install the new sensor( put a little oil on the new sensors o-ring to help installation).
