Whine coming from the rear of the car.

Recently purchased a 1999 B uick LeSabre as is from a local dealer...about one week ago....this whine developed shortly after purchase.....some one suggested it might be the fuel pump. Can I get to the fuel pump without lower the tank

Yes, all the time.....it wasn't that way at the first...but sinc e it started it is continous....could it be the screen or perhaps the load leveler?

  • june_netta_n May 14, 2009

Well, I had to go out and actually check for an antenna as I didn't remember seeing one..I still do not see one or anyplace it should have been...and you were exactly right ...when I turn the key to on the pump only runs for a few seconds and then cuts out....so I will pull some fuses....do you know where the load leveler switch is

Good morning, just wanted to let you know that the problem has been located and fixed quite easily and without any expense....it was indeed the automatic load leveler...the hose had somehow become detached...which let the pump run and run...Auto Zone's Drew was the help that spied the problem....a pair of needle nose and a pair of pliers, a little time and a good friend to help, ahhhhhhhhhh life is good when you can make repairs on your own....thanks again for your help also

No. you have to lower it. This whine is all the time when the car is running?

It could be the load leveler. There must be a fuse or a circuit breaker you could pull to check it. It's not coming from the power antenna area, right? And that works okay? I think i would pull some fuses and even your fuel pump relay to eliminate some other things first. When you turn your key to the "on" position,(without starting it) your fuel pump shopuld only run for a few seconds untill it pressures up and then cut out. If the noise continues after that it must be something else.

I have no clue, and your manual probably won't tell you much. It might tell you witch fuse controls it, though. ( or breaker)

Whine coming from front of car while car is at speed over 30 mph

First have your tires checked.[road noise]......next the bearings could have gone bad. I just did a Blazer this past week that had the same noise. They now sell it as a hub assembly and your local parts place will have them...

I have a 1993 Volvo I purchased new almost 17

Could be tire noise, could be rear wheel bearing, differential (if rear wheel driven), or could be something associated with the brake.

Try swapping the tire with another tire. If the noise moves with the tire, it's the tire. If it stays, it's brakes (unlikely for the noise you mention), rear wheel bearing, or rear differential (lack of oil). Will probably need to have a mechanic to identify and repair.

My rear windows will not raise down..or up on

There is a button on the master switch (drivers) to turn off the rear windows make sure it's not depressed. If not the master switch is probably bad since you lost both rear window control . Power and grounds to the rear switches comes from the master switch.

Whining noise while driving and stopping

This must be the power steering pump that is going bad. You might have to replace it.

Whining when not accelerating

Loosen and remove the Alternator belt which may be a serpentine belt and see if the whining goes away.
It could be the alternator or the water pump if it's driven by the same belt. It will go away while moving because the engine noise is usually negated by road noise etc but it's probably still there.

a little vague...did the dealer effect ANY change in the noise at all? Otherwise, I'd venture your transmission is defective from the factory :o(
