Question about 2009 Pontiac G5

3 Answers

I want to add cruise control to a 2009 Pontiac G5 with the manual transmission. My dealer wants to add an aftermarket unit that fastens to the side of steering wheel. Do I have to settle for this or can they install the correct unit from Pontiac that is in the steering wheel? This car has less than a hundred miles on it.

You will require a new steering wheel.
and it is almost $500 from the dealer.
It will look like this...

I want to add cruise control to a 2009 Pontiac G5 - c083d21.jpg
The aftermarket one does not stick off the handgrips of the steering wheel - it is on the bottom Hub area.

The aftermarket uses a wireless transponder and the brain is hard-wired into the ECU (computer)

Im not sure that your vehicle has the existing wires in the harness to facilitate adding a cruise in the steering wheel without replacing the entire steering column... or wiring harness.

Im sure with the right amount of $$ it can be done - but the aftermarket one is the least invasive and cheapest route for you.

All the cars... cobalt, g5, g6, g7 etc... have the cruise control built in the ECU, and it simply needs to be turned on using the GM Tech Tool Candi II. Its the part about switching it on and off that the costs are involved.

Go with the aftermarket - its really not that bad!

There is a reason that standard transmissions do not come with cruise control.because they cant shift like for example going up a mountain cruise will not keep your speed with out you shifting.then the cruise will shut off .If they have a way to do it this will probably be the only way.But car factory's do not put on cruise on standards

What should the resistance be on a camshaft position actuator on a 2009 Pontiac G5 2.2L engine

Component Testing
  1. Measure the resistance of each CMP actuator solenoid valve assembly. Resistance should be between 8-12 ohms.
  2. Connect a jumper wire between the CMP actuator low reference circuit at the solenoid and a good ground. Connect a fused jumper wire to the CMP actuator high control circuit at the solenoid. Momentarily touch the fused jumper to B+. Observe the spool valve inside the CMP actuator. The spool valve should move from fully closed to fully opened position.

Have a 2007 Pontiac G5 and need to add power steering fluid.

its tricky. its behind the engine. If you pop the hood and you go to the left side, look behind the block and it chould be about half way down or so. You should see the cap for it. I think that was a horrible idea on pontiacs part. Happy motoring!

Is there an aftermarket cruise control for an '04 F150? - Rather than replacing the pcm?

There is no need to replace the PCM, a dealer can reprogram the as built data to activate the Cruise control buttons that you add.

Ford dealers w/ online parts ordering get about 55 ( + Ship ) for the buttons ( MSRP is 109.60 ). They mount right in place of the blanks on the wheel ( for the CC only, the radio controls is a whole other story ).

The wiring should be in the wheel, I have seen XL 5 speed manual transmissions have the wiring in the wheel ( just needed the programming done ).

Item #6 is what you need to buy and install
067c827.gif

If you are good with the mechanics of the work, should take about 45 min or so to mount the switches, and a trip to the dealer to change the as built data with the IDS ( WDS replacement ), and you are all set. Programming should take about 20 min, but they might charge for a full hour ( billing rules per dealer ).

I use Tasca and Southwest Ford for online parts ordering.
Trademotion path to the parts :
Collision Catalog
2006 ( I see you have a 04, same parts ) -> Ford -> F-150
Steering wheel -> Steering wheel and trim -> Cruise switch -> W/o radio controls.
