No a/c thru the center vents on my 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante

We have a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante, last year I had the heater core replaced and this year I can not get air to flow thru the center vent ducts. There is heavy flow thru the out side vents but little pressure coming thru the center. Any advice? Do I need to take it to the dealer or is it something I can fix myself.

    Thanks Kevin,

I was able to remove the glove box and reach my hand behind the vent, I felt a strong burst of air coming from the Blower Assy, and want seems to be electrial tape holding it together. Is air suppose to leak from this unit?

Yes the air gets leaks from this unit.if thats the case the dealers help is advisable.as taking it to the dealer will be very helpful.but if its not under warranty then local repair garages have a ointment to stop this leakage the cost will be negligible.but if the assembly is under car warranty then taking it to the dealer will be much useful as many a times they give it a replacement.
so this will be benefit.
please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.thanks.

The vacuum actuator that controls the air flow to the center vents is on the extreme right, behind the glove box. There could be several things at fault:

1. vacuum line to the actuator disconnected (this is what was wrong with mine)

2. faulty actuator

3. actuator linkage to the duct door broken

4. leak in the vacuum line

5. problem with the vacuum control upstream of the actuator

Thanks

Could be a blend door problem. The blend doors under the dash direct air thru the heater core and the vents.
Are you sure the center vent is not blocked off ?

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante LS and the front windshield has started fogging up (from the dash upwards) My brother says it could be the heater core. If so, what are the symptoms, where is the heater...

Symptoms of a damaged heater core is moisture and the odor of coolant in the cabin as well as the possibility of coolant puddled in the passenger floorboard. The heater core is inside the dash and requires removal of the dashboard assembly in most vehicles. Unless you are comfortable with a large amount of work disassembling the dash, I would refer this to a competent mechanic.

How to change it a heater in a 2001 mitsubishi diamante

Why do you think you need a heater? Has the fan stopped blowing or are you referring to the need to replace the leaking gasket in the heater core?
If you take it to a mechanic for the heater core gasket, you can expect $1200-$1400 just to replace a $0.80 part. It is very labor intensive but can be done yourself if you have about 6 hours.

The best way to replace a heater core on a 2001 Diamante car.

I think the steps to replace the 'heater core' are a few too many to list here- sry and it is a pain to do in most vehicles- im not familiar on the exact steps on the particular veh. Best thing to do is get a repair manual and follow its guidance on removal and reinstallation of the heater core. Good Luck

What is the easiest way to replace the heater core in a 2002 mitsubishi diamante

2002 diamante heater core sits in center of the dashboard just over the on board computer for the car. To access it you need to take out the console between the seats and the entire dashboard to get to it. The only thing wrong with the heater core is the leaking gaskets (about $10 in parts). Mitsubishi knows about the problem and when the dash is taken apart you will see a plastic sheet over the onboard computer to somewhat protect it from the leaking heater core gaskets. So the expense in the repair is in the labor to get it all apart and back together again. The dealers seem to replace entire heater core when they fix this problem. I did just the gaskets and that solved the problem. I have read others who did it themselves only replaced the gaskets and that solved it for them as well. Maybe the dealers think you will feel better replacing a larger part for so much labor.
