Sounds like the starter solenoid or starter relay or the "Park-Neutral Safety switch"

Try starting it in neutral, or carefully, hold the key in start while moving the shift lever from park to low gear slowly and - with your foot on the brake and parking brake on.

report back.

    SECTION 303-06: Starting System

    2003 Expedition/Navigator Workshop Manual
    DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

    Starting System

The starting system consists of the:

    • starter motor.
    • starter switch, part of the ignition switch.
    • digital transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transmission-equipped vehicles).
    • starter motor solenoid relay switch.
    • starter solenoid.
    • starter drive.

    The starter motor:

    • is a permanent magnet, gear reduction, 12 V DC motor.
    • has an integral starter solenoid.
    • has an over-running clutch in the starter drive.
    • is serviced as an assembly.

The starter motor solenoid relay switch:

    • controls current to the starter solenoid.
    • is engaged by the ignition switch.
    • connects the battery to the starter motor.

The digital TR sensor on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles prevents starter motor engagement unless the transmission is in the NEUTRAL or PARK position.

    The starter drive:

    • is operated by the starter solenoid.
    • engages the flywheel to turn the engine.
    • has an internal over-running clutch to disengage the starter motor when the engine starts.

    The starter solenoid:

    • is an electromagnet.
    • engages the starter drive to the flywheel.
    • when energized, the contacts close, connecting the battery to the starter motor. This causes the starter motor to turn the starter drive.
    • is kept in the energized condition by a hold-in winding until the starter switch is released.

When the ignition switch is turned to the START position, the starter motor solenoid relay switch is energized, connecting the battery to the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid moves the drive lever and pin to engage the starter drive with the flywheel ring gear and connects the battery to the starter motor.

SOURCE: 1997 dodge caravan. headlights won't

Well...if lights are good, fuses are good, and the peplaced switch is good...maybe there is a relay for the headlights in a distrobution panel under the hood.
I'd check that next.

Hope this helps...

SOURCE: Problems with Gearshift 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Turn the key forward a notch then it should come out. If you are turning the key all the way off it enables the accessories (radio etc), locks the key in the ignition and disables the gear shifter.
If thats not the case then there is a button to be depressed so that the key can turn anticlockwise>off another click and the key can be removed.
It'll be one or the other....faulty ignition lock is the only other diagnosis

SOURCE: 2004 Lincoln Navigator low beam headlight went out

If you have the HID bulbs check with an Autoparts store like Autozone. I believe the right and left headlights have separate Relays in the Powerbox. It is possible that there are 2 low beam and 2 high beam relays total. They pull too much power for both sides to be wired together and may wire the high beams separate too!

Engine won't start

Check to make sure you are getting voltage to the small post on the starter solenoid when the key is turned to the "crank" position. if so, check all of you connections on the battery cables. If your connections are all good, your cables are in good shape, and you still do not get the starter to crank, I would have the starter removed and tested.

2004 Grand Vitara won't start

the trans only blocks cranking so we can ignore the overdrive lamp.
when car will not start, (state , what engine you have first)? 2.0L I4 or V6?
the first thing to check is .
is the gas tank above 1/4?
is there spark. on all 4 to 6 spark plugs.
are all fuses good.
does the CEL lamp glow key on, if not the ECU/PCM is dead and there will be no spark or fueling ever. but fuses can blow and disable ECU.

1999 Lincoln navigator cranks but won't start

Does it only do that when the weather is cold?

If it does, it could be the fuel pressure check valve has a leak. One way to check it is to turn the key to the run position for 5-7 seconds before you start the engine. If it starts, that should be the problem.

If it still doesn't. You might have to reset the fuel pump. You can do this by removing the fuse from the fusebox in the engine compartment (it's a 15 amp fuse. I think it's # 17) With the fuse removed, crank the engine twice but make sure you don't hold it too long as you don't want to drain the battery. Two 3 second cranks should be good.

Put the fuse back in and start the engine. Should start then. Hopefully that solves your problem. I'm having the same issue and that is how I start my truck whenever is doesn't want to start. Seems like it only happens when I haven't started it in a while but seems fine when I start it within 4-5 hour intervals.

Hi all,I have a Ford focus 2004 tdci 1.8 and the immobiliser intermittently won't turn off,I've tried both keys and its still won't start.kind regards Dean

Ford products are sensitive to changes in Battery voltage. The system views low Voltage as an attempted theft and makes the Alarm go off.

Remove the Battery, return it with a full charge or new Battery. Some other symptoms would be slow cranking or clicking like a dead battery. The Antitheft reduces starter Voltage to around 7 Volts making starting nearly impossible.

Please rate my info. If all else fails, the Identity in the car memory may no longer match the identity on the car keys. You would need to have a Dealer rematch the keys to the car.

When I attempt to start my car lights and everything come on but when I turn the key do not here ticking from starter or doesn't attempt to crank at all.

Sounds like bad ignition switch.Check battery voltage it should be 12-12.6 volts. If its good check for power at starter on the switch side of solenoid if you don't have power its the switch if you do have power and it won't crank its the starter thats bad.
