Tick In motor every few seconds after intake gasket changed

After i had my intake manifold changed on my 1998 Ford F-150 Regular cab 4x4 with a 4.6l v8, i noticed a light tick noise coming from the engine near the passanger side of the vehicle. Not too sure what it is...Their was a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust when i first got it back, then it sort of stopped smoking (still smokes a little)-(never smoked before).Their was barely any oil in it when i got it back. i put some in it then it seemed quieter. it kind of sounds like something hitting the fan every few seconds (tick-tick-stop-stop-stop-stop-tick-stop-stop-tick-tick) i hope it's not a lifter...but if it's not, what other possibilities could it be? any help would be very appreciated.

The noise sounds like when you arce battery on a piece of metal but a little lighter.

run it at night or in a dark place and look for arcing from the ignition wires.

Sounds like when they did the intake,They drained the fluids but forgot to fill them back up and since the oil was near empty,I would say it's a lifter. But they can be reprimed or replaced a whole lot easier than some other possible causes.

How loud is the noise?the tick could be a sticky fuel injector.
the intake involves lifters and push rods....
put an oil additive to remove the varnish
some places it's all about how fast it can be done. heroes
at our shop,it is how can it be done once.

Exaust intake leaking

It's exhaust manifold. There are two manifolds, the intake manifold in the valley between the cylinder heads, and the exhaust manifolds, one on each side of a v figured engine.

And, yes, a leak in the exhaust or the intake will make it run lean. If the leak is close to the engine, it can do harm to the valves, too. There is a gasket between the exhaust manifold and the engine block. Likewise, there is an intake manifold gasket between the intake manifold and the block.

How do I troubleshoot service engine codes for 2002 Ford F-150: PO174 and PO171?

This is the engine lean code. Too much air is entering the engine. Intake manifold gaskets can leak, vacuum lines get old and crack. Check the operation of the EGR and PVC valves, In short it is not easy to find the problem.

1995 ford f150 with 5.0 engine idling high

Get a spray bottle and spray water around the intake manifold while the engine is running. Any opening will change the RPM of the motor. Then tighten the bolts on the intake or replace the gasket.

The reason the RPM is high, is the extra air the motor is drawing in. It is the same thing as opening the throttle. If this does not help, go to an Autozone or Oreillys and ask for a free scan. The onboard computer may have a fault recorded.

I have a 2002 Ford crew cab with 5.4 triton .I have alot of oil on top of the intake .What are possible causes?

Most likely if it is only oil, it is most likely valve cover gaskets. If you see any antifreeze in the fluid then it could be the intake manifold gasket as well.

Check engine light on. error code is P0174

P0174 is bank one too lean. to solve:

First check for vac leaks. In the sohc the intake manifold gaskets are the primary culprit. They are cheap around $20.00 and easy to replace. The stock ones are known to fail. Replace them as it is good insurance. Secondly, check for any vac leaks between the maf (mass air flow) sensor and the intake manifold. Hoses, clamps and etc
