Have knocking checked out...generally knock is a sign of bearing failure...but as I said test first, (worry later) Hope it's nothing serious but knocking is usually knocking on the door to your bank account!!!

likely your motor is in serious trouble. Only a bunch of tests will tell you. at this point, likely it's junk, or really expensive to fix.

it depends on how hot it got does it turn over or run still

Well you might of blown the heads with out no water/antefreeze so you will need to do a rebuilt on the heads...but if your lucky then all you have to do is put water on it to see if that works.

I have since put more oil in my car but a knock in the engine developed because I drove it while low on oil

pontiac cars are mainly junk (sorry but its true) especially grand am. Sounds like you threw a rod or bearing, but don't feel bad it would've happened whether or not you ran it low on oil, you just sped up the process :)

I have a 1999 Pontiac grand am v6. When the cars temperature is at 200 and I park it when I go to start it, it doesn't want to start. It takes a while to get it to start. But after I get it to start...

Check your ignition, battery cables, have your starter and alternator tested for defects, also it is recommended to flush and change your coolant as seasons change, during the summer, it's best to run water in the radiator instead of Anti-Freeze, and during the winter, run 50/50. You may also want to have your engine checked for compression problems, replace your thermostat, and radiator hoses, check your water pump, and heads for cracks or warps. I own a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE.

Just purchased a 94 Sunbird SE for my son (today) Started fine. Drove for 15 minutes. Shut it down and it sat for 1 hr. Started again after registration and insurance. Drove for 10 minutes. Stopped once...

Take it back to where you got it and make them refund your purchase price. If they refuse and you finianced it go to them, There a law called "The Lemon Law" that makes it unlawful to sell something like that. Sounds like you sure bought one. Don't do anything to it just get hold of the place where you bought it and tell them to come get their junk out of your yard! dhgill1949

My 98 pontiac firebird suddenly starting knocking.

Sounds like a bad head gasket. Look for milky oil in the coolant resovior.

My car is making this weird knocking noise and people tell me its the timing chain it wont go over 40 mph now it drove fine till i had it out one day and it lost power and started knocking it still runs...

The rod knocking is caused by loss of oil pressure. Did the oil light not come on? That light is red, red means stop. Do not start this engine again until the problem is corrected.

Have you checked the oil level?
