You must be burning the oil in the cylinders. If there is blue smoke from the exhaust, then thats it.
You need new rings, cylinders, maybe a rebuilt engine?
i have a 1996 contour it dose the same thing but when im at a stop light i have to hold my foot on the gas and the breaks so it wont die. but i dont have a solution but i need one
the flashing light is telling you you have bad misfire,, have the truck scanned to find the cause, will tell you which cylinder it is and thats where ya wanna start,
Sounds like the knock sensor has failed. It's on the passenger side at the bottom of the engine block, in front of the starter. One wire going to it. Have you checked the timing lately, maybe it has moved?
what is the (revolutions per minute) rpm of your engine when the torque converter engages, was the torque converter rebuilt too? what type torque converter is in the ford ie low stall where it engages the gear box at around 900 to 1000 rpm. has there been any power band adjustment by the company that rebuilt your automatic transmission after the insallation.
Remove the black octane shorting (one time timing ****** adjustment) bar located near the ignition module ( the connector the bar goes into looks like a fuel injector connector), this should stop the ping, make sure the right jumper is removed, if you pull the wrong one the truck will lack power, if you get the right one the ping will stop and you will feel no change, U may loose a little MPG. If you can't locate it the dealer will do it for little or no charge, just tell them you want the octane adjust short5ing bar removed, did many of them on trucks like yours, the 2300 has a pinging issue, they all do, Mazda and the Ford Ranger.
