Question about 2001 Volvo S80
I had the same problem. there is a switch in the trunk on the driver side big black square. if you can have someone push on the brake you will be able to hear it click. replace that and you shoud be good

If neither side lights up it is likely that one of your bulbs or both are burned out......
because if the center one works then that means that your fuses are ok.....and the switch aswell......
try looking at the bulbs if you havent yet....
