no other symptoms, it runs great once its start up. the initial start up is maybe a little long and if you turn it off it cranks right back up but if you let it sit for a few minute you have to turn it over twice.

looks like the exh. manifold has a crack in the middle of the 4 inlets. do you think maybe this maybe the cause?

There are several things you can do if you haven't done so already, Check voltage at ignition coil, as soon as the engine starts to turn over there should be voltage. If not, the crank sensor is not triggering the ECM quickly.... on 98-99 wranglers, this was a problem area. Check terminal connectors at the ECM, clean and secure, another area of concern. The module on the side of the throttle body is the air idle control 'motor' as jeep calls it. Over time they tend to carbon up and it results in bad air/fuel mixture and yet fails to send a fault code, you can remove & clean also the O2 sensor in front of the cat. convertor.remove & clean. Check fuel pressure, you should have some residual PSI. Treat fuel system with a good treatment...I like the Lucas products, their fuel system treatment and injector cleaner burns hot & clean.
I hope these suggestions help...and the wrangler returns to top form...good luck.

Indeed it could be,,,,six cylinder models have an inherent issue with exhaust manifold cracking for the 1991-2001 model years. Aftermarket headers are the solution...OEM headers WILL crack.
Failure cause intermittent drivability problems like hard starting, stalling, ... .

Check your oil level on your oil stick. Sometimes the vehicle tells you that he needs a little oil or an oil change.

Wont turn over

The starter is most likely the problem, tap on the starter lightly with a hammer while trying to start the engine, dont get run over doing this it will take two people,if the engine starts, the starter needs replacing.

My 97 Jeep TJ will sometimes start and other times not.Doesn't enen turn over. at first theres no power to anything and the more I crank the ignition it slowly gets power back and will eventually turn over...

Had similar problem on 98 Jeep TJ, sometimes go sometimes turn over but would not start, turned out to be a corroded wire the the pcm deep down beside the battery, once wire was repaired it was fixed. The week wire gave some volatage but not enough to start it every time. Good luck!

sounds like a ignition problem, try new cap rotor and wires and plugs if this does not fix your problem it is either your coil or distribitor

1998 Jeep Wrangler Electrical Short in Steering Column?

I had a similar problem with my 2000 Jeep TJ and I found the problem in the wiring harness under the hood.several wires were corroded and almost burnt off.If you remove the black tape which keeps the harness bundled together and if you see evidence of "green" type powder or "gook" it's most likely where the wires have faulted.

1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ Headlights working intermittently

I have a 97 TJ and the headlights wouldn't come on but the parking lights would. Funny thing was that if I pulled the brights to flash someone, the brights would work. I took out the old headlight switch ($26 at Checker) and they work again. When I pulled the switch there was one connector that seemed to be corroded. Hope this helps
