You're water pump is going out and the car is overheating as a safety mechanism the chevy company put a senser that shuts down your car when it gets to a certain temperature to prevent any other damages. A new water pump will fix your problem.

At a cold start and driven for 3 or 4 miles, the vehicle shuts down. It restarts and doesnt do it again unless its a cold start.

These are the hardest problems to solve on vvehicles. I would start by taking the vehicle to a local parts store and see if they can check the computer(ECM module). Alot of stores likee Autozone can hook up a scanner to your electronic control module. It may be the ECM module. You can get ECM's from salvage yars sometimes. Hope that will get you headed in right direction.
