Thank you I was told about this possibility. As far as my cooling system, I had my mechanic put in a little additive last year to try and eliminate a timing cover leak. Could this cause a problem in the radiator that would continually run the fans?

Thank you, I was told it shouldnt be a problem but maybe he was wrong.

You're welcome, and I do wish you luck on your repairs.

  • its420_us May 11, 2010

Yes addatives can cause clogging of the cooling system, therefore the coolant can't properly flow. You may be in need of a new radiator.

  • its420_us May 11, 2010

You compression should be no less than 75% of your highest cylinder. If it is less than 75%, it's time to think about a rebuild. As far as your cooling system, have you flushed it?

Is there any smoking or coolant loss? the head gaskest have a tendancy to leak especially #4 cyl if coolant is seeping into the cylinder it will wash down the cyl walls and cause low compression

It could be a valve or the compression rings on the piston may need to be changed

1995 ford windstar 3.8L when i turn on my a/c it starts to overheat temp gauge goes 3/4 the way almost overheating same timekeep hearing a clicking noise every 30 seconds or so.

My guess either radiator is clogged or compressor is bad or low on freon...u said its clicking every 30 secs? Check freon level with a gauge. Is the air cool? Sometimes though car will run at normal temp but with ac on and condenser heating up radiator can't keep up. Flush and/or clean and check radiator/condenser for flattened fins

Why is it overheating unless I have the heater turned on full blast?

The heater acts as an additional mini radiator to cool down the coolant. Sounds like you may need a new radiator.

How to bleed cooling system on 1995 windstar with 3.8

Use a floor jack and raise the car up as high as possible, fill the coolant recovery tank as full as possible and run the engine until it reaches the high end of normal temperature, shut it down and run cols water war over the radiator, the air will self bleed and coolant will be pulled into the radiator as it cools to fill the void. The radiator cap is left on during this procedure.

The engine overheats and shows hot but when the heater is on full blast the temperature corrects. What can it be and what is the fix? maddock@hotmail.com

by turning on the heater the blower motor is actually helping cool circulating coolant which returns to radiator. your problem is , low coolant, radiator cooling fans not working, bad waterpump, or thermostat. make sure the radiator and reservoir tanks are full.

If ignition is good you may have low compression on one or more cylinders. Have a compression test taken on all cylinders

When idling saturn ls 4dr sedan wants to overheat

Sounds like either you are low on coolant or the cooling fan isn't working. With engine cool remove radiator cap and check coolant level, top off if necessary. If full start engine and turn on A/C full blast, full cold the cooling fan should come on almost instantly, unless there are two individual cooling fans in which case only one may turn on. If no fans turn on check all fuses whether related to fan or not. If all fuses fine try swapping relays around, they are usually all the same size/style. If fan still doen't work you have either an open positve or ground side of the circuit, Which will require wiring schematics and a multimeter. If coolant full and fan/s turn on and engine still overheats you'll need a new thermostat installed.
