CODE P0402 AND P1443 ON A 1996 MERCURYTRACER

WHAT WOULD BE THE MOST COST EFFICIENT WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS MATTER? WHEN I DRIVE, IT SOUNDS LIKE A ROD IS GOING TO BREAK OR LIKE I NEED OIL. THE CAR ALSO STARTS SMOKING AND RUNNING HOT. MY TEMP GAGE FAILED AND MY HEATER STOPPED WORKING WHEN THIS PROBLEM STARTED SO I FOUND OUT MY CAR WAS RUNNING HOT WHEN IT STARTED SMOKING AND MAKING THAT NOISE. I HAD NO FORWARNING THAT MY CAR HAD THESE ISSUES UNTIL LAST NIGHT WHEN SIMPLY TRAVELING 1 MILE DOWN TO THE STORE. I WENT TO PEP BOYS TODAY , THEY GAVE ME THE CODES AND TOLD ME TO GOOGLE THE CODES TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY WERE AND I WAS LED TO THIS WEBSITE. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF THESE PARTICULAR ISSUES WITH A CAR. PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU.

SOURCE: Function of lower Ball Joints and Strut Rod Booshing in 1988Mercu

Ball joints are a serious safety issue, especially if they are making noise. Strut Rod bushings slightly less so. I agree with you, if they are that bad you should have heard your noise before you changed the tires. You didn't sat what kind of noise, but the problems he suggested should make a clunk or snap. Your best bet would be to double check to make sure he properly tightened the wheel nuts when he changed the tires, if you have alloy rims they need to be torqued. If he just put them on with an air gun he may have damaged the rim which could make it break and fall off. And take the car to a repair shop that you trust and have them check your front end. They'll be able to tell you what the tire guy did. Don't put it off because you will find yourself in serious trouble if any of these things are the problem.

SOURCE: Guages stop and irratic idle with dimming lights

what probley happened the alternator started to heat up alittle to much and caused the belt to spin on the pulley i would go ahead and get the alternator replaaced as soon as possible. as for the lights dimming and the gauges not working you was running off your battery making the vehicle mess up i would also get your battery checked while your at it.

SOURCE: what should I expect in costs for a tie rod repair

tie rods are easy pull the front tires off loosen the jam nut, remove nut holding the tierod to the steering knuckle use a tierod tool and hammer to wedge the tierod out of the knuckle what i some times do if i dont have the tool with me is just take a hammer and hit the knuckle at the tierod until the tierod pops loose and then unscrew the tierod off and make sure to count how many turns you turn it off and on to get it' close to where it was then take the car to get it aligned.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 Mercury

Hi,

The overheating and lack of cabin heat both point to a failed engine thermostat which would be stuck closed. At the warm up stage, the coolant stays in the engine block to bring the engine to efficient operating temperature, then it opens and circulates the coolant through the radiator and heat core. If the thermostat is stuck closed, the engine will overheat, and coolant will never reach the heater core, and you will not get cabin heat.

Blinking oil light at idle which goes away during driving could be a low oil level, but may also be a drop in oil pressue. You could have a clogged oil fliter (at best) pickup tube, or a failing oil pump.

2005 Altima front suspension

I've never seen a package deal on these parts. A rebuilt rack usually comes with new inner tie rods. But you'll need to buy new outer tie rod ends, stabilizer end links and you should really take this opportunity to replace the power steering lines. The deteriorate from the inside and can wear out the new rack much faster.

P0402 1997 Toyota Camry 4 cyclinder 4 door, encountered P0402 has 3 months already. The car is drivable. What is the solution? Could replacement of a vsv value resolve this issue? Which part can I buy

Hi,
That is the code for Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow (EGR) Excessive Detected

Read more at: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0402
Copyright OBD-Codes.com

Go to the site and review what causes and can be checked to fix it.

I'd start w/cleaning the EGR valve - free fix - and then consider replacing the part. I'd look for USED parts @ a local Salvage/Wrecking yard vs. buying new, due the cost and the fact that this is an older car.

Code p0402 comes up what do I do?

Code 402 means the EGR gas flow is excessive. On Ford products it could be the EGR valve or the sensor. Both components would need to be tested.

P0402 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detected
Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Service engine code P0402 for Ford Mustang

P0402 OBD-II Trouble Code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow (EGR) Excessive Detected

What does that mean?
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor (DPF). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0402 code means that OBD detected an excessive amount of EGR.

Symptoms
You may notice drivability problems such as the engine may surge off idle. There may also be other symptoms.

Causes
A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
* There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
* The EGR valve is faulty
* The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum

Possible Solutions
With a P0402, it is common for people to replace the EGR valve, only to have the problem return. The most likely solution is to replace the DPFE sensor.
* Check the voltage at the DPFE sensor both at idle and when the EGR is open
* Replace the DPFE sensor

Hope helps (remember rated and comment this).

2001 Ford Escape error code P0402

Ok here is the solution when I had the exact same problem with my 2001 Ford Escape:
Replace:

Idler air control valve
EGR vaccum sylenoid
EGR valve

I did all of this work myself (and as a girl it was not hard at all), it cost me around $170.00 for all of the parts, had it done in less than 2 hrs., erased the codes and have not had a problem since then! I hope this helps you out, cuz it sure would have helped me out when I encountered the same problem.
