Question about 1991 Cadillac DeVille

Water pump replaced 3X, broke off again, why?

I have already had two different mechanics to try and fix my water pump. It has now broke again and usually goes about 2 weeks before breaking.

Is there something that will cause the water pump to continue to break again and again that they aren' t fixing?

Wrong size belt for example?

The water pump was leaking but that was finally fixed. Drove it for a couple of weeks and it broke everytime. It had to be rethreaded last time. I think your pulley idea makes a lot of sense. Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't think that is it. That was what the first mechanic had said after it broke the first time. I bought motor mounts took them to a new mechanic and he said my motor mounts were fine. Which I believe, because I can't imagine why he wouldn't have taken my money to do the job. Besides my engine doesn't move or lift up when I give it gas.

This may be a long shot -- I've had two Caddys, and '84 and a '93. BOTH of them kept breaking motor mounts.

Now, since your problem is sorta wierd -- could a broken motor mount create enough mechanical jostling as to ruin a water pump??

Who knows, but I do know that I had to have transmission seals replaced as a byproduct of bad motor mounts.

When those big mills start bouncing around in strange directions even a little, all sorts of odd-ball things begin to happen..

good luck

A wrong size belt will generally just break the belt or throw it off the pulleys, and I can't imagine a mechanic would pu the wong one on twice, there's a good chance the problem is a pulley is out of alignment, most mechanics don't think to check if the other units pulley's shaft bearings are loose or if all the pulleys are correctly aligned,I can't be 100% positive on this as you describe the problem as a broken water pump,so it doesn't tell me if it's leaking water or whatever the case may be,but it would be worthwhile to have this checked out when it goes back to the shop.I hope this helps.

My 2000 dodge neon 2.0, just cut off whwhile I was driving. It needed a water pump like a month ago. Now it just turns over like it jumped time.

Looks like the timing belt broke. It also drives the water pump which I'm sure is what took out the timing belt. That has a interference engine so you may need a valve job if it slammed the valves. 50 50 chance its all done unfortunately....

My dad always told me "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...however, this doesn't rule out preventative maintenance, which is your primary concern. I'm somewhat suspicious of your mechanic's motives, after all, he's there to make money, not save you money. My advice is this: if you have yet to have the car repaired by this particular shop, then get a second opinion from a reputable one. If they have already started the work...get a few quotes for the repairs from other shops for comparison, as well as getting a written warranty on any parts and labor, should you choose to let them replace it. Good luck and I hope this has helped you! :)

Water pump elbow unavailable in Pune and Mumbai

Really good welders can weld cast metals. It is an art, but it can be done.

If you cannot get the part, you might as well try to get the one you have made whole again. (Remove the part before trying this!) After all, you already cannot drive the car...

If you can find another Lancer with the same engine, and which is the same year that is no longer running (has been in a wreck and is totaled, had a car fire, or whatever, and take that one part off the useless vehicle, and replace your broken one with that.

2003 kia rio- water pumps

I would follow the mechanics recommedations. I think he's taliking about the cam and crankshaft seals. Yes the water pump should be replaced as well. The pump that sprays windshield washer fluid onto the windshield is called the windshield washer pump. The water pump is on the engine and pumps water (coolant/antifreeze) through the engine to the radiator and heater core.

Serpentine belt broke and the v belt broke. i

How long did you keep driving the car after the belt broke? The engine is cooled by the water pump, the pump works only with the belt.If the cars engine was hot (normal at 212 degrees) and the belt broke that runs the water pump, and you kept driveing even a short distance you could have overheated the engine. If the knock is a deep solid sound the piston connecting rod bearings spun and the engine needs repaired or replaced. Its sad to say but an engine without a water pump is just like a person trying to live without a heart. If the heart stops the person stops.

It's a 99% chance of water pump leak or the housing at the timing chain that the water pump sits on.
Water pumps can and do leak one minute then seal themselves.
A cheap fix most use is go to a 7 lb pressure cap on the rad.
