Unable to open rear tailgate glass on 2003 Volkswagen Touareg

The whole tailgate opens but the glass section does not open when the button is pressed

I assume the button on the rear wiper base operates a solenoid to unlock the rear glass. When the button is pressed there is no noise of a solenoid operating, do you know where the fuse is for the tailgate glass?.

Did you open the tailgate first before the glass hatch? Check the comfort settings.

Please refer to the user manual of your car to set the comfort settings to default settings.

You may refer also to the manufacturer for the second opinion.

Have a great day!

Rear door locks but the glass section will not latch

I have the same problem. Try pressing the rear hatch opener button on your remote. Just press it once. Try shutting the glass section after that. For mine, it's caused when you open the rear door without first pressing the release button on the remote. Now I make sure I press the button to open it first.

1999 Yukon tailgate won't open --glass part opens -, but gate section section appears to be locked but it shouldn't be. I have tried to unlock with key but haven't had any success. Any help woud be...

if you can access the tailgate through the rear panel on the inside; you might be able to see if the plastic clip is broken that helps to pull the locks out so that the tailgate will open

The dome light is stuck on and the door ajar light is on on the dash all doors are shut along with tailgate glass. Had this prob once before with the tailgate ?

Check you door jamb switch. Its the switch/button that is pressed when door is shut. Open one door at a time press switch and hold to see if goes off. when you get to the one that is broke nothing will change. Can get part at local parts store for around $30.00.

Rear Hatch Release/Lock Failure: How To Open The Glass
google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad); lg.php?bannerid=137&campaignid=106&zoneid=16&loc=1&referer=http%3a%2f%2fwww.s10forum.com%2fforum%2fadmincp%2fopenx_config.php%3fdo%3dox_zones&cb=d809956913 After a while, the mechanism (actuator) that unlocks and releases the rear glass hatch in
your Blazer or Jimmy will eventually burn out. when it does, there is really no way to open
the glass and lower the tailgate. The dash push button won't work, the rear key lock will
not work, the inside tailgat handle will not work, and you can not remove the interior
tailgate panel to access the mechanism because the screws can only be reach when
the tailgate is down (awesome GM design feature). The only way to replace the burnt
out actuator is to open the tailgate which you can't because the actuator is burnt out.

I've read stories that even the dealers don't know what to do, some have even cut up the
back panel to reach the so-called manuel release. Others said they pulled back the glued
on carpet to search for it also.

Well if you don't want to hack up the tailgate panel or rip out your carpet,
here's the easy way to open the glass:

You just pull back the interior tailgate panel right above the bump in the middle
where the latch is. There are no screws or bolts in that area, you can safely pull it back
about 2 inches. Then you'll have to stuck your finger in and push down the release bar.
See the 2 pictures below:

(No pictures allowed in this forum rolleyes.gif , oh well, click the links then)
The first pic is of the latch, it's the gold section.
The second pic shows what you need to push downward.
When you get your finger back there, you should be able to feel for the part that need to
be pushed down. When that part is pushed down, the glass has been unlocked.

Now that the glass is unlocked, it and the tailgate can be opened. Now you can remove the
interior tailgate panel, it has one screw on each side and easily lifts off.

The actuator that needs to be replaced costs $58 from the dealer, so if you don't want
to replace it yet, but still want to open the back, you can leave the panel off and just puch the
manuel release level. Here's the pic of the tailgate:

It's in the open section right below the latch, hows my fingure pushing it:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...z/IM000668.jpg

I haven't replaced my actuator yet, still trying to find it for cheaper than the dealer wants,
but hardly any part store guys know what the hell an actuator is

I had the same problem with 2005 estate it used to open when starting the engine but does not unlock at all. The problem is the the sensor on the glass tailgate handle where the wiper arms is. It will cost around £70 from Jagaur themselves as I have just got one.
