Voltage problem on 91 Buick Park Avenue

I had an alternator loose its bearing pack. I replaced the alternator but now the voltage meter on the dash is only reading 10 volts. I had the alternator checked and it is good. The battery is brand new. I get 12 volts off of the post on the back of the alternator and ground. Is there a relay that could have failed that controls current to the computer or control center that the volt meter reads from?

Sounds like the voltage regulator is not working, at the terminals you tested voltage should be above 13.6,also make sure you have good grounds, these should be tested with an ohm meter, meter should read zero,no resistance, if you need more help get back to me and we'll do some other tests, please rate my fix as i strive to be the best

I have a 91 buick park avenue tht will not stay running 20 mins, battery and alternator have been chkd, once vehicle shuts off it will notstart back up with out charging battery again.

have a load test done on the battery. Most tests on batteries comprise a test with a multimeter to check voltage but a load tester checks the condition of the cells.

Need a picture of firing order on a 1991 Buick Park Avenue

Check this site I believe the black images is the coil pack firing order. I used a coil pack from a different model but had to open it up and change the firing order since the spark wires wouldn't reach for my 91 buick. You should have some knowledge about wiring before attempting that. Basically I just switched the wiring on each side inside the coil pack.

Voltage meter in the car has a red light that has been blinking and now the meter keeps going up and down. from 10 to 13

One possible cause would be the internal voltage regulator of the alternator is going bad.
Most parts stores provide a free check of the alternator and regulator.
Good Luck!!!,

Entire instrument cluster on dash flashes, and trip meter

Sounds like there IS a loose connection. There is a large connector on the back of the speedometer cluster. You'll have to pull the cluster and that's no easy chore. Sometimes the connectors get corroded also.

Before you tear into it, CAREFULLY push the entire cluster forward to make sure it is snapped into place. Push in a couple of spots using the palm of your hand and a soft cloth so you won't scratch the plastic cover.

Good Luck . . . . . . .

How to change a voltage regulator for 95 Buick Park Avenue

The voltage regulator is built in to the alternator. It's better to replace the whole alternator then to just replace the regulator. The regulator and other parts like the bearing all have about the same amount of life time, unless the battery is weak which can put extra taxes on the regulator. Good luck and hope this helps.
