I have a ford tfi distributer but I have a duraspark ignition modular. how do I hook up the tfi module to the duraspark ll?

No. The MSD box takes the place of the Ford ignition module (duraspark II most likely).

with distributer cap off have someone crank engine and see if your rotor is turning if not repair distributer or replace.

After 1991 ford moved the TFI from the distributor to the left fender next to the coolant bottle under the hood.

I have a91 f150 nite no spark replaced distributer and coil got power to coil but no spark can someone help I don't get online alot so out would be greatly appriceated if you could txt me 248 974 0281 plz...


Sorry I don't do text, because I don't want spam either... The most likely cause of your problem is a bad TFI (ignition) module. All of the engines used in Ford trucks in 1991 used the TFI modules. Some were distributor-mounted modules and some were fender-mounted modules. I cannot tell you where yours is actually located, because you did not bother to mention engine size. (Nice-to-know information - it helps a little if we know what we are working on) Anyway, That is the most likely cause of a no-spark condition. In fact, It has been so common with the Ford engines that Ford ended up settling in a class-action law suit due to the TFI modules repeatedly leaving people stranded. I personally had a Ford Ranger - replaced the TFI module about 6 times in the 7 years that I owned it...used to keep a spare in the glove box.

Hi, I have a Ford F 150 5.0 pick- up truck. I cannot get a spark from the coil at all. What could the problem be?


Check for 12 volts at the coil with the key on. This system uses a hall effect pick-up which is located in the distributor. Along with this pick-up you have either a (TFI) thick film ignition module or a duraspark ignition module. If you have a TFI it will be mounted on the side of the distributor. A duraspark module will be mounted to the drivers side fender well. In most cases, the pick up in the distributor is the root cause. If you have a TFI module, the pick up and module are usually replaced as a pair. Good Luck.

1980's Fords were notorious for the "Thick Film Ignition" (TFI) modules going bad. They were so bad in fact, that there was a class-action law suit filed against Ford for this issue. If you are sure that your distributor cap, rotor and wires are in good condition, then I would try replacing the TFI module. It is screwed to the side of the distributor. A special socket tool can be purchaced at your local parts supplier for this purpose. The screws go way inside the body of the TFI module and standard sockets will not fit into the hole far enough to get onto the head of the screw. It is not real expensive. You are looking at maybe less than $80 for the TFI module and the tool to install it with.

there was no distributor that wasn't solid state, they were Duraspark system (to late 1985 model year, no computer) and then TFI system, sorry.

Changing electric system on 2.8 engine


You will need the Duraspark ll ignition system from a late 70's Ford 2.8. I used the 78 Mustang ll to order the parts when I did my 84 Bronco ll 2.8.
You will need the distributor, rotor, distributor cap and adapter, and the ignition module. You can use the TFI coil that was on the 2.8. you will also have to replace the feedback carb with a non feedback one. A Motorcraft 2150 will work.
