Before you tear into the engine remove the oil pressure sender and install a hand held mechanical gauge and check the pressure. The sending unit coud be bad. As far as the rough running.. when was your last tune up?? The gauge could also drop to zero due to insufficient RPM's because of the rough running. Does it have any knocks when the pressure is at zero??

How do you replace an oil pump on 2002 Chevy trailblazer

The engine is shot. Throwing an oil pump on it , is throwing away money and time. Oil pumps rarely go bad. Pull the oil cap, if the is sludge on it, it is way worse inside the engine. You'll clean it and slap on a pump. Only to find out the crank bearings are worn out and it starts knocking. Change the oil, add oil additive to it and drive it till it dies. Then scrap it or replace the engine.

Need to see diagram of distributor for 1993 v 6 Chevrolet Silverado

Cap is clearly marked with plug wire numbers. Distributor itself has no serviceable parts. If you have a rough running or hard start condition, just replace the distributor. Be sure to mark where the rotor is pointing when taking it out, ( on base of intake and on firewall) it has a worm gear and will move about 1/2 - 3/4 inch when you drop the new one in. If you do not move the engine, new on should mate with oil pump shaft and align correctly. 4.3L V6

1993 chevy pickup z 71 driving down interstate and check gauge light came on and oil presure dropped to 0. Truck died and cant start again

It could be the oil pressure sending unit, or the engine could really have no oil pressure.
If the oil pressure dropped to zero at highway speed, I would expect the engine to lock up or at least make alot of noise.
You may have to tow it home and check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, or replace the sending unit to see if the gauge on the dash reads pressure.
The fuel pump gets power from the pump relay at startup, then runs off power from that oil sending unit when the engine is running.

1993 chevy caprice classic wagon 5.0 8 cylinder hads a problem with engine shutting off with in seconds after start ! i did check for vapor lock in gas line, had new spark plugs replace, new fule...

Think the oil pressure switch keeps the fuel pump running once started. Suggest replacing Oil pressure switch. And no it won't effect oil pressure reading when it goes bad. The switch is a safety device. When you roll it over and the oil pressure drops the switch cuts off the fuel pump. Neat huh? Need some good feedback Thanks!

how did you clean the gasket off of the head? if you used a sanding disc the grit will eat up the bearings. are you reading pressure with a mechanical gauge? you have replaced all bearings??

6 psi @ 1000 RPM
18 psi @ 2000 RPM
24 psi @ 4000 RPM

1993 GMC Sierra C1500 5.7 just recently started having the oil pressure drop. We think it may the oil pressure gauge where would that be at. We don't want to change the pump if changing the gauge will fix...

Most likely the Gage is not the problem these rarely go out. If the pressure is only dropping then the oil pump is getting weaker or is filling with sludge. Try running the engine with an oil additive such as marvel mystery oil or sea-foam. Then after the additive has circulated through the engine for a few heat ups and cool downs you can change your oil. the pressure should change almost immediately. If it doesn't then check the oil pressure switch. You can look on the side of the block and there will be a small piece shaped like a pencil with a wire coming from it. This piece is the oil pressure switch. Hope this helps. Please rate me if you think this helped. Good luck.
