Could very well be a big problem. Have the oil pressure checked with a gauge. These engines have a plastic windage tray that breaks sometimes and the pieces plug up the inlet screen of the oil pump. You may need to remove the oil pan to remedy this.

You will have to check your oil pressure with an oil pressure gauge. it could be a problem with your oil pump ( or a blocked gauze on the oil pump) and the tappets noise is related to the oil pressure.

SOURCE: red oil light flashing, oil change no problem but

Yes it is related, don't drive it. First thing you should do is install a new oil filter even if it isn't time for an oil change.

This noise you hear is the hydraulic tappets ,there gummed up change the oil and use a cheap diesel/petrol engine oil a 2 second squirt of fairy liquid into the oil filler and leave for a couple of thousand kms then change the oil again and this will clear the gummed up holes allowing the hydraulic tappets to re adjust

Knocking knoise under 1500 rpm

If your car has hydraulic tappets and low low oil pressure at engine speeds then it can make tapping noises. Oil pressure is needed to maintaine the tappets clearances, excessive cleaeances will produce noises.

My Polo 1.4 is making a tapid noise, what can I do to fix it? Also my interior fan, when it's on 4 you can hardly feel the air.

clean the pollen filter ,as for engine then change the oil for a detergent oil and also put a couple of squirts of washing up liquid in with the oil as well and run it around for a week then the hydraulic tappet noise should stop then make sure you change the oil every 6000miles with a oil filter every third oil change ,your oil has beeen left too long and its gummed up the hydraulic tappets

On my 1994 L200 3000 mitsubishi there is a tappet which has stuck and is rattling, can you help.

Mits are well know for top end noisedue to hydrolic tappets. Note we are talking about a tapping or clicking sound here not a knock. You can try using an engine flush product if the noise is bad and then changing your oil. Follow manufactures instructions on the engine flush product. I have also used Marvel Mystery Oil (available at Walmart and most auto parts houses) with some success on this. Generally if the oil is not changed regularily eventually the tapping noise starts happening. FYI: hydrolic tappet can and do fail but generally the noise is associated with not maintaing oil changes

A 2006 chevy 4.7 v6 engine makes initial tappet noise at first startup. engine has 35500 orig. mi. on engine

Try using an oil additive designed to loosen tappets with your next oil change. Maybe a change of oil brand can help. Changing out the offending tappet is the ultimate repair, but most expensive.

1995 isuzu Rodeo engine noise

valve guides worn and tappet adjustment required, can check tappet adjustment first to see slightly better before removing heads and getting valve guides repaired/replaced on heads common problem
if raise revs to 1500-2000rpm and hold does clatter come and go come and go (valve guides) if there all the time tappet clearance issue
if there only under load (1st rev up) for a couple of times then stops possible big end bearing
all these are common for this engine

Ticking noise coming from car when cold

are they hydraulic tappets?? not adjustable but a mechaniics bodge if they are hydraulic ,,,,put a 5 sec squeeze of washing up liquid into oil filler and half a litre of diesel -----run for about 2/3 days without doing any boy racer stuff ,,,drain oil and refill with a diesel grade oil like shell rotella or anything cheap off of the supermarket shelf and refill with this and add some more washing up liquid .run for a couple of weeks then change oil and filter .and refill with a cheap diesel/petrol oil from supermarket and change oil every 6000kms or 5000miles or a least once a year more frequent if low mileage .this should free off the build up of gum in the hydraulic tappets without stripping the engine.expensive oil is well known for causing this as poly methyl methacrylate which is used to hold the oil viscosity has a nasty habit when full of crud from not changing oil regulary to clag up.moral of story change oil often but a filter every third oil change
