Question about 1993 GMC Jimmy

1993 jimmy vortec keeps stopping

The jimmy started acting like it was losing fuel pressure and would stop. Replace fuel filter, ignition mod,and put in a new fuel pump. Ran pressure test for proper fuel pressure, checked out find even when driving. But still acts as if its running out of fuel and stops. When it acted as if it was running out of fuel the pressure was still good.

It starts spitting and sputtering like its running out of gas an sometimes dies. Sometimes it starts right back up, other times it doesn't

    Dennymulford,

Is the regulator the same as the relay. Can you tell me were it is located.

    Thanks

It sounds like you may have a plugged catalytic converter. Try removing the O2 sensor, it will be noisy, but if power improves, you have a restriction.

Hi Palmer Jay, Take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan and have the fuel pump pressure checked at the same time. It sounds to me as if the pump may be defective and not giving the correct pressure. Also have them replace the fuel filter. Regards John

On the vortec engines they require 56 pounds of fuel pressure to start a few pounds shy of that you have a dead vortec you will need a fuel pressure guage to verify

I recently had similar symptoms from my Kia Rio, hard to start, bad idle in gear, etc.
Ended up being the idle air control valve, you can try cleaning yours with carb cleaner and see if there's any difference.
A clogged fuel filter can produce the same symptoms too, that might be the easiest thing to start with, then it's just a process of elimination from there.

93 Jimmy with 4.3 vortec, Won't start, no spark. Changed cap, rotor, coil and ignition module. What would be the problem.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? Can you hear your fuel pump buzzing. Remove your gas cap and have a helper turn the key to the run position while you have your ear close to the open tank. If you don't hear anything you have a fuel related issue. Even if you hear the pump buzzing you need to check the fuel pressure as it may not be making enough pressure. If no buzz you may have a bad fuel pump, pump relay, or wiring problem to the pump. That is where I would start.

1998 gmc jimmy 4.3 vortec starts and runs but shuts down when reaching operating temperature.

Your fuel filter may be at it's life time and will need to be replaced. Start with the simple and replace that, the other thing also that would cause the engine to shut down would be a faulty oil pressure sending unit. What is the oil pressure on the dash when the engine shuts down. You need at least 8 PSI to have the engine stay running. Check your Fuel pressure at the shredder valve and you should be 62-65 PSI with the engine not running and fuel system energized, once the engine is running it should drop about 5PSI. The last thing that could cause this would be a bad ICM, once the ignition system heats up the ICM fails and the engine shuts down. A mentioned, start with the simple and replace the fuel filter and check your fuel pressure to ensure your fuel Sending unit has not gone bad and will need to be replaced. Good luck and keep me posted.

Hi, back again. Changed the fuel filter and a new

No fuel pump reset switch on a Jimmy. If your pressure goes up to normal, then drops back down after 2 seconds, you need a new fuel pump as the return is not working correctly to keep fuel in the lines.

Fuel prblem

the computer controls the fuel injectors.they should measue about 1.4 ohms each.
put fuel directly into the throttle body and see if it will start.
check the wiring to the safety netral switch and all the grounds.
make sure that the ecu is seeing an input from the ignition switch.otherwise it will not turn on the pump.it is a complex setup and you need a wiring diagram
