Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Crankcase sensor 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4 liter 6 cyl. We need to replace the crankcase sensor. Do you have step by step on how to do that? Its our sons car and it would probably cost to much to bring it to a dealer to replace. Or if we did bring it some place (dealership or a small garage) what do you think the price would be to fix it.

Could you explain what the crankcase sensor is or does -- I'm not familiar with that term.

Crank sensor? Not necessary for long instructions ...It's located in a hard to reach place, on the trans bellhousing, even with the flywheel on the drivers side about 10 oclock looking from the rear to front. The harness extends to near the master cylinder up at the firewall. It's held on with two small screws. Easier to say than do, but remove the screws, take it out, put the new one back in.

CANT FIND CRANK SENSOR

The sensor is mounted in a fixed position in the engine block. The tip of the sensor protrudes into the crankcase at a distance of 0.05 plus or minus 0.02 inch from the crankshaft.

Oxygen Censor

The thermostat will not harm the sensor, but the entire engine control system is designed to operate at 210 degrees, therefore all sensors will not recieve proper information,,,end result may be improper mixture in the exhaust pipe, triggering o2 sensor fault reading!
