This happens quite a bit with windows on this car. The window glass slide channels dry out and the window sticks, this is taken as a signal that the window is fully up and the motor is tripped off. Sometimes if the window fails at half way it is still possible to lower the window but it will not raise. Clean out the channel with a cloth soaked in washing-up liquid and scrub hard. Allow to dry and lubracate the channels lightly with lithium grease, this will ease the windows movement. If you are caught away from home just keep rocking the window up and down, with an interval of about 1 second between each operation, and hopefully the window will start to creep up a little. As soon as you have any glass showing, hold the window pane between both hands, and assist the window up hard. You should be able to get the window up eventually. Once home carry out the cleaning operation, and grease,

1998 olds cutlass driver side window switches dont work except for the switch that controls the passenger side front door window that works but all others dont work, would that mean need a new switch or...

Do the individual door switches work their windows? If so, it would be the driver's side door switch, the master switch, that is bad.
The fact that one window works off the driver switch means that power for the windows is at least getting to the master switch, and that the ground for all power windows is good. If the other door switches work, it is just the master switch, not a wiring problem.
