There are many pullys on your engine.... which one is IT you wish to replace?... The Power Steering Pully?.. the Alternator Pully?... the Accessory Drive Belt Tentioner Pully?... the Crankshaft Pully? The Timing Belt IDLER Pully?.. the Timing Belt Tensioner Pully? ... your choice.

Tell you what... No response, then I can't help. If you're talking about the accessory drive belt tensioner pully, there are two 12mm bolts which mount it to the engine. You'll need a 3/8's drive ratchet (or other 3/8's drive device) to release the tension so you can remove the accy drive belt to facilitate removal of the tensioner pully. Once you're remove the accy drive belt, remove the two (2) 12mm bolts holding the tensioner pully to the engine (make visual note of position/direction of the drive belt when you do this because you'll need to position the drive belt in the same orientation when you install a new auto-tensioner in place of the old one.).

I just replaced the alternator belt on my 96 Isuzu trooper and after tightening everything and starting the engine ,neither the fan nor the alternator will turn unless I do so by hand

did belt fall of first or you took it off. first.???????????????????????????????
no engine size stated 2.8L or 3.1L Usa.
belts vary by engine,
causes.
belt mis-routed,did you make a drawing before starting.oops
or you set the tension wrong? read the book or guess?
or the auto tensionor is bad. (we always check this 1st.

now i read your fsm book on serp belt.
its a serp right>?

"some of the V6 engines are equipped with a serpentine belt and automatic belt tensioner. The tension is maintained by a spring loaded pulley/tensioner. The indicator mark on the moveable portion of the tensioner must be within the limits of the slotted area on the stationary portion of the tensioner. Any reading outside the limits indicates either a defective belt or wrong SIZE belt or bad tensioner."

question 3
did you take old belt and match it side to side
with the old, and are same size.
if not FAIL.
assumes old belt not lost or run to total destruction. (im blind tell me)
q4: did you put a a/c belt on a non a/c cars
see dotted line below, that be 2 type belts.

Where's the spring tension on changing the serpentine belt on a 1997 Suzuki sport

the accessory belts.
there are many belts here on the J18 , 1.8L engine, the 1.6L has no such belt so, must be the DOHC engine, as all true SPORTS have.

J18 engine.
here is the answer, (alldata.com covers this fully)
The Alt and water pump is automatically tensioned on the 1.8L and the PS & A/C is set similar to the 1.6L below but with a special left of crank tension pulley( with a single bolt adjuster)
see same as G16 engine to 22 lbs force will cause a deflection of 1991-98' = 0.24 to 0.31 inches (non SERP)

be clear on what belt
seen here , see page? 18 , belt 12 or 16???
http://www.fixkick.com/engine/20Liter/html/index.html

SERP:
the auto tensioner has no adjustment, its just preloaded over belt.

Serpentine belt replacement

the cars have more than one engine,
the first job to working on any car, (engine) is to know what is there.
or bad happens. (bad to engine, and buying wrong parts)
i bop over to wiki and...
2.6L 120 hp (89 kW) I4
3.2L 175 hp (130 kW) V6
so which is it?
as you can see and I4 is not a v6, not even in the least same.
i will throw dice, car is USA car, and most cars in USA have too big enigne, and is V6.
so the answer is.
INSTALLING, does that mean you have it removed already or it fell off?
just clue. id hate to print the whole process stated in the FSM.
here are some quotes for you.
Belt tension is maintained by an automatic tensioner. No adjustments are necessary or possible.
there are only 2 systems. auto tension and manual.
we discover that first by just a glance a at the serp, and its friends.
see idlers, see adjustable idlers, that is they move to side when
flexed, bingo , auto tension. if no springs, they are MANUAL.

in this engine, (1)
facing engine, see the crank pulley, and see that tensionor
on the 11pm posision of the crank pulley. that is a spring adjuster

now the text.
Use a wrench to rotate the drive belt tensioner, as shown in the accompanying figure, to remove drive belt.

easy huh, just then the tensioner to loose and bingo ,it is.
and this step 2

Remove any necessary engine covers that are blocking access to the drive belt.
all this was at alldata.com . log in and look.... under access. belts.

2005 dodge stratus r/t tensioner pulley and belt issue

ARE YOU POSITIVE THE SERP BELT IS NOT SLIPPING OFF THE CRANK PULLEY? I USE A STRIP OF DUCT TAPE TO HOLD IT ON THE PULLEY AS I FEED THE REST AROUND.

YOU SHOULD END UP WITH THE BELT TIGHT AND MUST THEN (USING A SERPENTINE IDLER PULLEY TOOL) RELEASE TENSION IN ORDER TO GET IT OVER THE CLOSEST, MOST CONVENIENT PULLEY...THEN RELEASE TOOL TENSION AND BELT SHOULD BE ON.
***FEEL FOR PROPER TENSION ON IDLER PULLEY (SERP BELT) IT MAY BE SHOT

Install 2003 pontiac montana serpentine belt

The serp belt tensioner will be in between the alternator and the power steering pump. Use a 3/8 ratchet and insert it into the square hole of the tensioner. Rotate the tensioner to remove the tension from the belt.

It doesn't hurt to draw a picture of the belt routing before removing the belt. Most GM's will have a diagram of the belt routing. I think yours is located on the plastic cover that is near the water pump.

If you don't have a diagram the belt is routed like this.

From the crank pulley the blet goes to the a/c compressor then under the water pump pulley then over the power steering pump and the alternator. then down to the p/s pump, over the tensioner pulley and finally ending up at the crank pulley.

Let me know if you have any question and I'll be happy to help. Thank you for using fixya.com!

Fig. Accessory serpentine belt routing-3.8L engine (click for zoom)

Using a 15mm wrench attached to the drive belt tensioner pulley, rotate the tensioner clockwise to release the tension. Remove the drive belt from the pulley. When installing the new drive belt, ensure that the drive belt is routed correctly and note the position of the indicator mark on the tensioner.
