Question about 1999 Subaru Legacy

Subaru starting problem

I have a 1999 Outback (automatic, 27K miles) and it has developed an annoying starting problemwell, actually, a "failure to start" problem. Every so often (4 times in the last 3 weeks), I try to start the car and practically nothing happens. No starter sound, the warning lights on the dash don't light upnothing but a clicking sound coming from near the glove box. The battery is still fine because I can play the radio. I can try a dozen times and nothing happens. Then, if I wait 10 minutes it starts fine. Any clues? -> Gerry My 1999 Subaru has had a starting problem several times a year for the last 5 years. Usually tickling the wires under the steering columb allows the starter to engage with the switch. I first replaced the starter to no avail. Then lived with the problem until this time. The dealer said to bring it in the next time it happens but I can't bring it in when it won't start. It always starts when I turn the key on and jump power to it at the solenoid comnnection on the starter. Whats the deal and what part do I need? I hear the click near the glove box also as stated by others on the site.. Thanks, dproush@arn.net

My 2001 Subaru Outback doesn't show a transmission dipstick. The manual has a diagram but there's no dipstick there. It just started kicking between gears, 1. Where's the dipstick? 2. How many miles can I...

It just all depends on the fluid level. It probably needs changed around 50,000-60,000 miles. Sometimes, the dipstick is under the car. It is not an actual dipstick. It is much smaller but it is located on the side of the transmission. I would check down there to see if it is on the side.

Subaru won't start

You've got to assume that the trans oil change is unrelated. With the key in the run position see if the wipers work, if not the battery is dead. Otherwise, try rocking the car back and forth while in park and then hope for a miracle. If all fails, get out the volt meter and start measuring voltages at the starter and the power pack (coil).

Timing Chain 2003 Subaru Outback LL Bean Edition

I would definently Replace the timeing chain before it breaks. because if it does break when its running it will cause catasrophic failure. such as bending valves and possibly breaking a piston. every so many miles your chain should be replaced as with the belts. it is a safty precaution. A little money spent now will save you a lot later.
hope this is what you were looking for.

Limited slip axles require in many cases the additive. It is ***** whale oil that is added to the required gear oil. Ck with Subaru is best. They sell it in the parts department and if capable you can add it yourself. or, have the dealer service your differential fluids. fluids
