I'm a bit hesitant on doing it due to being told and or seen/heard on either TV or radio show that by replacing old fluid with new fluid, the detergents of the new fluid will damage the old seals?
Especially if the old filter and fluid had not been repalced for a while.

Here an update on this, fluid drained and lines purged, all three selenoid or sensors inde transmission replaced, speed sensors replaced, filter replaced, Lucas additive added. About three times that filter and fluid has been replaced and still have blinking light, funny thing is, now it only happens when cold. After its benn driven for about 15min at normal or high speed and fluid is hot, quits blinking and overdrive works fine. Any ideas or suggestions ?

Okay the flashing overdrive light is a trouble code and you need to have pcm (powertrain control module) codes read to know what they are. This is a common problem with these trucks but not always same cause, sometimes it is a vehicle speed sensor and sometimes it is a faulty torque converter clutch solenoid. Either way most eveyone agrees it needs to go to a ford dealer to be diagnosed correctly

There is an overdrive bypass switch on the end of the shift lever on some, Push the button on the end of the shifter. It is easy to overlook, as it is on the very end of the shift lever, and can be inadvertently switched off when you shift to park. Hope this solves your problem

Blinking overdrive light , not shifting

Have the vehicle scanned. The overdrive light is like the check engine light for the transmission. There are transmission codes in the ecm if the overdrive light is blinking.

What are these buttons for? e t c drive & side of shifter

The ETC switch is a transmission control device. When it is not active, the transmissions shifts normally. When the ETC is engaged, it alters the shift points.
Example: the 1-2 upshift occurs normally between 18-20 mph. Now, say you are towing something, or are carrying a heavy load...engage the ETC, and the trans computer will "hold" the 1-2 upshift until 22-24 mph. It is just for that, prolonging the shift points, due to load.

The switch on the side of the shifter is for the Overdrive. Engaged (the OD light is off) the transmission shifts into overdrive. This saves you gas. When the button is dis-engaged (the OD OFF light is on) , the transmission does NOT shift into overdrive. It is best to leave the overdrive ON, and the ECT OFF to obtain maximum fuel mileage. I hope this has answered your question. Please feel free to comment back if you have any other questions. Thanks for chosing FixYa for assistance.

Overdrive button on extend cab ford f150

Problem Solved Look No Longer. Overdrive switch fuse blown, auto door locks not working, fuse after fuse after fuse, chasing wires grrrr. Remove the steering column cover (3 screws from the bottom) opens like a **** shell. Your switch is located on the shift lever, the wire for the switch is routed through the handle and comes out where the shift lever mounts to the column. Look very closely at the wire in this area. Most likely rubbed through. MR

My taurus has the jerks, and sputters?

The 1st thing you need to do is go to an Auto zone or Kragen auto and have them run a trouble code test, the OD light is blinking to let you know there is a transmission related fault, but it sounds like the may be other issues like the MAF sensor and passably a low fuel pressure concern.

Your transmission fluid contain water, thats why the colour of the fluid changed to pink. And of such the clutch is slipping causing the engine to reve up before shifting - Check transmission cooler.
