Engine size/capacity required ?? all the one's I've seen upto now would damage the engine if belt snapped. You need to know if yours is a non-interference type ie the valves do not intefere with the tops of the pistons at any point in an engine revolution.

Have taken off water pumped might have knocked a 91 mazda protege out of time ,how do i find engine marks to reset the timming

Hello- Yes, you have to remove the timing belt in order to remove the water pump. If the belt was just placed back on the pulley without setting the timing marks, then the engine is out of time. There were two engine types that your Mazda could have been equiped with; a single overhead cam or a double overhead cam (you did not mention which). In any case, do not try to start the engine anymore, you could damage the valves due to piston to valve clearence caused by the engine to be out of time. Comment back with the engine type and/or if more assistance is needed.

Broke timing belt while running --- has it ruined my 1998 Dodge Neon engine?

I would put your chances at over 85%. It is a zero clearance engine. Meaning that there is no room between the valves (in the head) and the pistons. The chances that the valves came into contact with the head are very high. At very least, you will in all probability have to have the head replaced. If you have an honest mechanic, he will inform you of further damage that may have occurred as soon as the head is removed.

So maybe not the entire engine, but the cylinder head is a near certainty.

Sorry, but there is still some hope.

My timing belt finally went out and was wondering if i did any damage to my engine

normally when this happens the damage will mainly be bent valves wich will cause car to loose compression and not start unless you do head job.only way to know is try and do compression test after timming belt is done but then you will have to take timming off again i would take head off when changing timming belt..

Replaced timing belt, but van will not start?

It is possible that this is a zero clearence engine. Meaning that the valves can hit the pistons if the cam timing is off or the timing belt breaks. I would strongly suspect that you have bent valves. This can easily be diagnosed with a compression test. If valves are bent the repair will require at least a rebuilt cylinder head and gaskets. It is also possible that there could be piston damage as well. The reason it is not starting is it has no compression due to bent valves.

Replace timing belt on Volvo S60

There is no room for error...... Zero clearance. If off one tooth it can and will bend valves. if you are one that just feels the need to get alittle dirty or just can't pay for the service, then get out your Haynes out and turn to .....Tune up, and look at replacing timming belt. Get a cam gear tool that locks them into place so as that they will not move when u have them lined up. make sure they are lined up with marks as said in book. then make sure crank as well as all marks are lined up acordingly. make sure belt marks are lined up with everything. i would reccomend using a volvo belt though cause it will have all the marks on it.However other company's make good quality belts also at a fraction of the price. So it is really up to you.
Good thing when doing timming belt is to also change out your timming belt tensioner. YES do this it will save you a engine in the long run. it is a moving part that will go bad, it will freeze up and snap timming belt. rip out teeth in thebelt and bend valves. So as a gen rule...When you change timming belt, Change belt tensioner at same time since you cant just change tensioner without changing or getting timming belt off. Remember to use your HAYNES. It is your friend and will save you money in the long run. Good luck... Hope this helps you.
