96 caprice sticky brakes or trans?

My wifes 96 caprice started to feel like the brakes were sticking mostly in reverse but nowhere near as bad forward this was a few days after i changed the frount pads. when i checked they both seam to work fine i still cleaned up the bolts and where the caliper slides. thought for sure the rear had to be it but had both tires off to try and bleed them and they arnt even working that i can deal with but why dose it still feel like the brakes are on. you really got to rev it up the tranys ingaged can feel it go into gear and mostly reverse seams to get tighter as when going forward it seams to loosen. my previous experiance with tranny failure is slipping and eventually wont engage when i feel hers ingage and not slip i think brakes i just thought maybe axel bearings?

Ok, Ck for residual pressure at fron and rear by crackking open the bleeders Use a box wrench so you can see if they squirt. Protect your eyes. If they have residual pressur, the front is acceptable but very little, The back should have none. Next, make sure the rear brakes are not too tight or overadjusted and you can pull on the parking brake cable and feel the slack. The brakes at the rear tighten with forward wheel rotation. If they are in full contact with the drum rhey will tighten up on their own, causing them to drag. They won't lock up becase there is no pressure to keep them against the drum until you push the peddal. Let me know if any more help is needed. _Ned

My 99 explorers fuel pump went bad so i had to push it out of a parking lot. My wife got behind the wheel and took it out of gear and we started pushing i looked down and noticed that the reverse ligh

I doubt it. The brake system would not know or care what the transmission was doing.
You could move the truck with the trans in reverse as long as it was not running. No difference from being in drive or reverse.
I have pushed power steering fluid out of the pump by turning the wheel with the engine off, but never brake fluid from the master cyl.

Jack up the truck and see if brakes are locked.. or just try pushing it if it rolls its probably a trans problem not a brake problem. could be the park prawl is broken in the Trans.

My 1990 f350 would not move much in forward or reverse, already concerned I had a break hanging up, I used power numerous times to go back and forth to try and break it loose. I realizedt that the trans...

Well, I doubt it is low. I can't think of any Transmission that holds 6 quarts unless your torque converter was completely drain and even then I don't think it holds 6 Quarts. Pints maybe but not quarts. If the Torque converter was burned because you where driving it without fluid it would in fact give you this condition. I recommend you get a floor jack and elevate the whole front end and see if you can free spin the front wheels while the engine is running. Then repeat this test on teh rear wheels. Make sure you have the truck on level ground, block the front wheels and in neutral with the emergency brake released. Sounds like you might have a stuck caliper or your rear drums are locked by the pads or a sticking parking brake system. Every time you hit the brakes hard when backing up the auto adjuster on the rear brakes tightens them and it is possible they have tightened too far. I would check the brakes first then if they are good and the wheels are free turning by hand take the vehicle to a transmission shop and have the transmission checked.

Trans in park computor read out on dash reads it is in drive

You most likley have a bent/damaged shifter cable. Unhook it at the trans, and move the linkage, with the park brake set. Push it all the way forward, that is park. The display should change and it should start. If so you will need the cable. Good Luck

Transmission problem

Your forward clutches are going out.It usually starts with your 1 to 2 shift then eventually it will only have 1 and reverse..Take a look at the dip stick..If it has blackish or grayish stuff on it bad trans is more than likely.Giving the trans a fluid flush is good but by doing that now after it is already slipping could result in even sooner failure..So the best advice I could give you is start saving for new trans or to rebuild the one you have...A good additive you could put in it to prolong the life is a LUCAS trans oil.Its really thick and sticky and will give your trans a little longer life before failure. This is not a permanent fix nor will it stop it from going out but will make it last a while longer..Try and not do any harsh take offs and try and let out the gas pedal when you think its going to shift from 1 to 2...If you let it slip into 2 it will fail even sooner yet..

door pins may be bad, you doors may also be sagging at the hinges causing a bad connection, your lights will dim when you brake because of a draw on the battery, but it sounds like your pin switches are bad

ok... check your transmissino dip stick to see if the fluid level is regeresting on the dip stick. now this IS WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DONT KNOW.......NEVER I MEAN ....NEVER CHECK THE TRANSMISSION DIP STICK WHEN THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING, ITS OK TO CHECK YOUR OIL DIP STICK WHEN THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING.BUT YOUR TRANS IS DIFFERENT...... heres what you do...... START YOUR CAR...THEN PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON ...THEN PUT THE CAR IN NUTURAL....... NOW YOU WILL GET A REANING ON YOUR DIP STICK IFITS LOW THEN ADD FLUID.. REMEMBER ALWAYS CHECK THE TRANEE IN NUTERAL THE BRAKES ON AND THE CAR RUNNING.....HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK...........
