If you are not hearing any weired noises coming from the trans you may have a burned out or bad solinoid. Have someone trace the wiring diagram to determin which solinoid supposed to kick in when shifting to drive. Open the cover to the solinoids, locate and test it.
I hope this helps.

I put a new automatic gearbox and transfer case in my 80 serious Land Cruiser but it wont move when I put it in drive or reverse, what could be the problem?

this is indicative of a torque converter clutch problem
(servo/solenoid )
see as to how you just fitted the transmission I would be checking all wires and connections first
second are you sure that the unit worked before fitting it

My 2000 Chevy silverado 1500 z71 wont move. used 4wd then tried to put back into 2wd it would shift into any gear. Put back in park it makes a grinding noise

Sounds like your transfer case in neutral. You have to engage the transfer case back into gear then shift selector to drive or reverse. When your transfer is in neutral the transmission will not operate. Good luck.

I have a 1996 astro van. Front drive shaft moves to the transfer case. Nothing from transfer case back. Is there a clutch in the transfer case? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The front drive shaft moves when the truck moves.. This is a "All wheel system" NOT a 4 Wheel Drive system.. Yes there is a clutch pack in the transfer case that is supposed to send the power to the wheels as needed. for traction. Make sure you keep all the U joints lubed and in good shape.. these are very expensive drive shafts. You really did not tell us the problem.. possibly the truck does not go ?. in which case it could be a bad transfer case or possibly a broke output shaft on the trans. except for the output shaft and rear housing these transmissions are the same as the 2 wheel drive models.post a comment and let us know what you find, By the way check to see if there is any fluid in the transfer case..

I have an 96 grand jeep cherokee and it is currently stuck in 4wd part time. When i shift it to N and put it in 2wd then shift to drive it does nothing but make a humming type noise. same thing happens w/...

first this is a shift on the fly system which means you shift it in and out of 4wd when moving and not stopped . 4 low yes stopped. second the diameter of your tires must be all the same plus or minus 1/8 inch. third if you drive in part time you will be causing binding when turning at all on dry pavement. this can break things like cv shafts and or the transfer case chain.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 292000 miles. Runs but will not drive in any gear. Selector will go into hear but it wont move. It can be pushed while in neutral. Was told transfer case was bad but even...

Could be either, a transmission problem or transfer case problem.
Someone will probably have to remove the transfer case to find out.
The torque converter, pump, valve body, or various parts in the transmission could have failed. The transfer case could be stuck between 2wd and 4wd or could have a broken gear.

Transfer case wont engage

shift into 4wd and move truck a couple of feet.
if light is still off, park truck block the wheels set the park brake jack right front wheel and try to hand spin the wheel if wheel doesn't turn 4x4 is functioning properly but there is a wiring problem use an ohmmeter to check the 4x4 switch wiring fuse and bulb
if wheel turns freely the front axle or transfer case is not engaged
attempt to hand spin the front driveshft if the driveshaft will spin the transfer case is not engaged check the transfer case shift linkage, problem is in linkage or transfer case internals
if the driveshaft will not spin the transfer case is engaged properly
with trnsmission in neutral or park start engine measure vacuum on the two vac lines at front axle shift motor . one line should have approx 20" vacuum. other line should have none
if no vacuum measured look for vac leak or bad vac switch
if both lines have vac look for a bad vac swithc or ruptured cad actuator diaphragm
if one line has 20" +- VAC
move transfer case lever to 2wd measure vac again lines should have swapped vac signals
if no vac switch bad or 4wd shift likage needs adjusting
if yes vac motor bad or stuck or shift fork stuck
remove vac shift motor from the axle attach vac lines to shift motor engage disengage 4wd
does shift motor plunger move at least 1/2 inch
no shift motor bad
yes check axle shift fork and vac motor for binging
