Cadillac recommends it be replaced at 100,000 miles.
You should also consider changing the tensioner (1) and idlers (2) at the same time. A kit is available from the dealer and various aftermarket sources that contains all the parts.
I hope this answers your question.

I have 98,000 miles on a 2001 Highlander and don't know when I last change the plugs. When should I change the spark plugs and what elso do I need to do to tune the engine. Thanks

Generally, spark plugs used in cars today are supposed to last up to 100k. Most experts recommend replacing the plugs and fuel filter every 35,000 to 50,000 miles. The timing belt and serpentine belt should have been replaced at 75,000 miles and the transmission fluid should have be serviced by now.

I just bought a 1987 BMW 325 6 cylinder with 98,000 miles. I believe it to be the eta (e) or economy engine. The car had the timing belt 2,000 miles ago in 2000, but the car has not been driven since...

belts should be changed every 60,000 miles or 5 years max so it is due a belt anyway.
if the belt does come apart it will do serious damage to the valves , head and pistons.

i would change the water pump at the same time for peace of mind. especially as it will be exposed while doing the belt, and you do not know if the pump is seized/worn.

I'm interested in purchasing a 2007 cts 3.6 liter wondering if mainteneance is a big problem like when do you change spark plugs and oil changes i only drive about 12000km a year thank you josh

i would have a tune up done when you buy the car although most shops will tune them up before selling make sure to ask about that. oil you usually change every 3,000 miles or 6 months witch ever comes first.

Have 84k miles and am wondering when do I need to replace the spark plugs and wires, timing belt (replaced last at 45k) and any other preventative maintainace? Any information will be helpful. Thanks for...

Plugs and wires at 50,000 miles, the timing belt should last 100,000 miles. I am curious why the first one was replaced at 45,000? I am thinking you may have replaced the serpintine belt.

I have a 99 Jetta with 98,000 miles on it. Do I

If the timing belt breaks it could cost you alot more! If it breaks the pistons can slam into a intake or exhaust valve and bend them. This action could also crack the piston. If this happens an engine re-build will be required plus it could leave you stranded somewhere. It is possible you could drive another 30,000 miles without a problem...but do you want to take the chance?

Required maintenance

Replace the spark plugs at 60,000 miles

Replace the timing belt at 90,000 miles

Change the auto trans fluid every 30,000 miles

Change the coolant at 60,000 miles

Replace the air filter every 15,000 miles.

That is about it. Not much else is required.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance, a FixYa rating (4 blue diamonds) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Drive Belt

How does the belt look, and when was it last changed? If it's the original or shows signs of splits or cracks, yes, change it, preventative maintenance is much better than having it break and getting stranded somewhere, and maybe even overheating the engine. countrycurt0
