I'd go the drop out the bottom and lift the body of the car over route. It is possible to pull it out from the to but it is hard going . Try and obtain a workshop manual shud have a haynes manual to help you achieve your goal.

Engine swap

. Assembling a vehicle the body is lowered down over the engine so if you have the correct equipment say a hoist where the engine / gear box unit can be lowered as you raise the body then I would take it out the bottom. you place the engine assembly on suitable stands and simply raise the hoist/ body up off the engine.

Hello. My engine seized on my RAV 4. I have located another engine. What is the best way to swap the engine? Will it come out through the top or is it easiest to drop the whole subframe through the bottom?...

Hi Bft,Your easiest and most efficient way is through the top. Remember to dismantle the suspension and half shafts first. Once you've removed the CV joints don't move the vehicle as the front wheel bearings are held in place by the CV's. Regards Johngee10

I have a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport. I need to swap out the engine, which is a 3.3 L V6. Do I have to drop it out the bottom or can I use a lift to take it out the top ?

You can only drop it plus its easy once the subframe is out it,plus it wont come out through the top(unless you take it apart)

Need to replace supercharged engine and trans. in a 96 Riviera

Faster and safer to drop the whole unit from the bottom with the cradle. Replace the supercharger snout bearing and seal before you install the replacement engine and the supercharger belt. Also replace the boost valve to your transmission just to ensure your getting the proper transmission line pressure throughout your transmission.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe

Looking to pull the engine out of 95 camaro 3.4 with manual tranny does it come out the bottom or the top?

You can pull that engine out of the top. It is easier to drop the engine cradle, remove the drive shaft firs, and wiring harness. There should be four bolts located on the cradle at four locations. Lower the cradle with 2 jacks one on each side, lift the car and slide cradle from under the car. i have done this with an Intrige and was easier than trying to pull from the top.

Jim,I have taken out a dozen or more of these and the best way is to drop it out from the bottom. You need to lower the eng. and trans. out with the frt. cross member ,then pull the eng. and trans. off the cross member and seperate the two.If you need more info on the process, let me know .John.
